Carlos Alcaraz v Jannik Sinner: Prediction, Tips and Odds

A blockbuster French Open semi-final takes place on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Friday when Carlos Alcaraz takes on soon-to-be world number one Jannik Sinner.

With Novak Djokovic withdrawing ahead of his quarter-final, it means Italian Sinner will move to the top of the rankings next week regardless of whether he wins this tournament or not.

Sinner is just one step away from his first French Open final, but standing in his way is Alcaraz, who is also aiming to make the last stage here for the first time.

Carlos Alcaraz v Jannik Sinner betting tips and predictions

Jannik Sinner to win - 11/8

There were injury doubts about both players heading into the French Open, but Alcaraz and Sinner have dismissed any such concerns to move into the semi-finals with relative ease.

Spanish ace Alcaraz has dropped just one set so far, against Jesper de Jong in round two, while he has made light work of seeded players Sebastian Korda, Felix Auger-Aliassime and, perhaps most impressively, Stefanos Tsitsipas in his last three matches.

It's been a similar story for Sinner, who dropped his first set so far against Corentin Moutet last time out, and Friday's semi-final has all the makings of a classic.

There is nothing to separate these two in the head-to-head statistics with four wins apiece, but the fact Sinner triumphed in the only clay-court meeting back in 2022 could have huge significance.

Also, this year has, so far, belonged to the Italian, who landed his maiden Grand Slam in January's Australian Open and has added Rotterdam and Miami titles to his name since.

The 22-year-old has a win-loss record of 28-2 in 2024, considerably better than Alcaraz's 18-5, and he can advance to the final in Paris for the very first time at the Spaniard's expense.

Total Sets - 5 - 2/1

While both players have dropped just one set each to reach this stage, they are expected to push each other to the limit and five sets might be needed to determine the winner.

Of the eight previous meetings, just three have been decided in straight sets, while their last Grand Slam clash - in the quarter-finals of the 2022 US Open - went to five.

This could turn into a marathon contest between Alcaraz and Sinner, and the 2/1 on there to be five sets is appealing.

Over 1.5 tie breaks in match - 4/1

There have been eight tie breaks contested between Alcaraz and Sinner across their eight meetings, with three of those coming in Grand Slams (Wimbledon and US Open), and the 4/1 for there to be at least two on Friday is hard to ignore.

A total of 24 sets have been played out between the pair, meaning a third of those have required a tie break, and the impressive serving of Sinner and Alcaraz suggest plenty of games will be racked up.

Sinner is third in serve rating on the ATP Tour this season and ranks first in percentage of services game won, while Alcaraz is 11th in both serve rating and first serve percentage.

While the Italian ace has yet to be forced to a tie break in this tournament, his Spanish rival needed one against Korda and it would be no surprise should a couple of these be witnessed in this semi-final.
