Emma Raducanu was a quarter-finalist at the Eastbourne Open last season and the British world number 38 will be hoping to set up another deep run at the seaside venue with victory over American ace Ann Li.
At last year's LTA event on the south coast, Raducanu recorded wins over former Grand Slam champion Sloane Stephens and second seed Jessica Pegula before bumping into eventual winner Daria Kasatkina.
Injuries have made things tough for Raducanu to rediscover the level that saw her take the US Open title in 2021, but a recent resurgence has seen her reclaim British number one status.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a quarter-final run at Queen’s, having recorded straight-set victories over Cristina Bucsa and Rebecca Sramkova before finding the challenge of Qinwen Zheng too hot to handle.
In that quarter-final clash with Zheng, Raducanu had to take a medical timeout due to a back problem, but she is fit enough to compete in Eastbourne and will be looking to fine-tune her Wimbledon preparations.
Li, the current world number 65, won her maiden WTA Tour title at the Tenerife Ladies Open in October 2021, but she has struggled to build on that breakthrough success.

Best Bet: Emma Raducanu to win 2-0 @ 4/5
It is a bit of a concern that Raducanu required a medical timeout when last seen losing in the quarter-finals of Queen’s but that clash was against world number five Zheng and she has deemed herself fit enough to compete at Eastbourne.
It is likely that she will find this challenge much easier and in Li she faces an opponent with very limited experience on grass, having played only six matches on the surface since 2022.
Li has not even qualified for the main draw of Wimbledon in the last two seasons and, having lost 16 of her last 22 matches on grass, this looks an arduous task for her.
Li lost 7-6 7-6 to Suzan Lamens in Den Bosch most recently and it is hard to see how she can live with the power and precision of Raducanu, who has won 10 of her last 14 grass-court matches.
Each of the Briton’s last five wins on grass were recorded in straight sets and, having made the quarter-finals at Eastbourne last season, she looks set for another routine success.
Aaron Ashley says:
Raducanu was a quarter-finalist in Eastbourne last year and then made the last 16 of Wimbledon, form which puts her well ahead of Li on grass. She has returned to British number one and is slowly but surely rediscovering the level that enabled her to win a Grand Slam title at the US Open in 2021.
This match should revolve around Raducanu and she can ease to a 2-0 win over Li, who has lost in straight sets in five of her last seven outings on grass.
Li’s big strength is her serve, though, and she had 13 aces across her two matches in Den Bosch just under two weeks ago. Grass helps big servers and she can serve at least three aces.
Finally, with both Li and Raducanu looking to make the most of their serve, five or more double faults appeals. There were 11 double faults in the Briton’s latest defeat to Zheng, with four of her last five grass-court encounters featuring at least five.

Aaron Ashley adds:
Raducanu seems to thrive when playing in front of a home crowd on the grass. Not only did she make the quarter-finals here last season before a last-16 run at Wimbledon, but she also reached the last eight at Queen’s Club last time out and should be feeling pretty confident about the job in hand.
A recent resurgence has seen Raducanu, who has won 12 of her last 18 matches, return to the world’s top 40 and there should be plenty more to come from the former US Open champion.
A recent injury scare is a concern but, if in full working order, she should have far too much quality for her opponent. Li’s career record on grass courts is eight wins and 15 defeats, with five of her last seven matches on the surface resulting in 2-0 losses.
