NRL: Tedesco stars as Roosters end Sharks run

James Tedesco was the star of the show as the Sydney Roosters ended Cronulla’s winning run at PointsBet Stadium with an impressive 36-16 win.

The Roosters are priced at 10/1 to win the NRL grand final and their seventh win of the 2022 campaign takes them to fifth on the ladder.

Tedesco the star

Tedesco will once again be a key figure for New South Wales when State of Origin gets underway with game one on 8th June and the Blues skipper showed against the Sharks that he is bang in form.

The fullback scored a try, provided two try assists and also finished the game with 205 running metres and seven tackle-busts, to leave coach Trent Robinson in complete awe.

"He (Tedesco) worked hard during the week and it's intense as he's been," Robinson said. "He was saving tries on the end of the line and pushing through the ruck and it came out tonight. There was no backing off even though he's got a big six-week period, he was pretty impressive."

Fitzgibbon disappointed

For the Sharks their five-game winning streak on home soil came to an end and coach Craig Fitzgibbon was disappointed with his side’s performance.

"Any field position we got we gave away a penalty and they bowled us down field," Fitzgibbon told reporters. "I think our discipline was miles off and that was the response to not winning the simple parts of the game.

"We lacked confidence in each other (defensively), we've got to tackle stronger than that. We lacked the basic fundamentals in that area."
