Only once has a team from outside the top five countries claimed victory in the UEFA Champions League, with that coming in 2004 as Jose Mourinho led Porto to an improbable triumph.
As such, the vast majority of the wealth and prestige is concentrated in the top five countries, making sustained domestic dominance in any of the respective leagues a real achievement.
Since the start of the new millennium, no club in the five countries has won as many league points as Barcelona.
Over the last 25 years some of the most iconic players in football history have turned out for the Blaugrana, including the likes of Lionel Messi, Ronaldinho, Neymar and Lamine Yamal.
In that time the club have won 13 league titles, including a centurion season in 2012-13.
