NRL: Tamou keeps the faith

Wests Tigers co-captain James Tamou has made comparisons to his time with the Penrith Panthers and says just like his former club Michael Maguire’s men need to fight on.

The Tigers are priced at 25/1 to make the eight and play finals but they appear to be in disarray after losing the opening five games of the 2022 NRL campaign.

Panthers spell

Tamou was with Penrith between 2017 to 2020 and went on to play finals three times. He also helped them to a grand final.

The two situations seem completely different as the Tigers have not played finals footy in 10 years. Even so Tamou believes it was not all rosy during his time with the Panthers.

Tamou stays defiant

“It’s five (losses) in a row and it’s easy to kick stones,” Tamou said after Sunday’s loss to the Sharks. “We’ve just got to keep going. We know we’ve got a strong team there, and it’s all the little things to put it together.

“Not so long ago I was in a similar position at Penrith. We had a strong group and look at Penrith now.

“You can’t give up and at times at Penrith it felt like that, but they didn’t. And I know that group in there (in the sheds), they’re in the same situation.

“They want to strive for success and they want to be better every week and I feel there are similarities (here to Penrith).”

Things do not get any easier for the Tigers with their next game against the in-form Parramatta Eels on Easter Monday.
