Swansea City hand managerial role to Alan Sheehan on permanent basis

Alan Sheehan has been named the head coach of Swansea City on a permanent basis following his successful spell as caretaker boss.

The former Notts County and Luton Town left-back signed a three-year deal with the Swans to end growing speculation concerning the Swansea.com Stadium hotseat.

Sheehan assumed interim duties following the departure of Luke Williams in February and has overseen a splendid conclusion to the campaign, accumulating 23 points from his 12 matches in charge.

Swansea held Leeds United at Elland Road in that spell and chalked up five successive victories in April which have assured the Welsh outfit of a top-half finish in the Championship.

The club held an extensive recruitment process in their search for a new manager but have sided with Sheehan to lead the club on a permanent basis.

In a statement on the club website, Swansea's chief executive Tom Gorringe said: "Alan has shown strong leadership and tactical acumen during his time as caretaker head coach.

Collectively, we believe he is the right person to take Swansea City forward and build on the progress that we've made towards the end of this season.

"We’re excited and optimistic about what we can achieve together."

Sheehan enjoyed the caretaker role at Swansea in December 2023 after the club opted to part company with Michael Duff.

The Irishman watched his side return three wins and two draws in seven matches before handing responsibilities over to Williams in January 2024 after he was prised from Notts County.

Sheehan's coaching career is brief but the 38-year-old obtained his UEFA Pro Licence in June 2024 and is highly-regarded amongst his peers.

Swansea's director of football Richard Montague added: "We've been very impressed with Alan since he's taken over as caretaker head coach for a second time.

"It was important that we carried out a thorough and detailed process for appointing our new head coach.

"We had to get this decision right, and we are very happy with the work that’s been done and confident that we've picked the best head coach to take our club to the next level."
