Following the thrilling conclusion of the bet365 Empress Stakes at Towcester, all eyes now remain at the Northamptonshire track for the upcoming bet365 Puppy Oaks.
A proven winner of the British Bred Derby in 2021, and a Category Two winner of the British-bred BGBF Oaks last month following a lengthy lay-off, the Dave Firmager-bred and owned star put in a gritty performance to land last month’s Towcester showpiece final
Originally, the ante-post favourite, Azurra had been displaced in the market by Makeit For Waz, she broke smartly and wouldn’t be caught, racing away to win by four and three-quarter lengths.
Bet365’s Pat Cooney said:
“Fabulous Azurra lit up the bet365 Empress Stakes Final, and we look forward to sponsoring even more first-class greyhound racing when we return to Towcester in November, for the bet365 Puppy Oaks. A Four bend competition, another category one meeting, that’s one I’m really excited for.
Then we go down to road to Oxford in December, another category one, this time over their 650m trip, one that will be very much of interest to the stayers.
Staying at Oxford we have a puppy competition over the four bends in the New Year. Yet another category one.
That’s four category ones that we are delighted the put our name to, they’re all four round competitions and there will be plenty of talent on show.”
In April bet365 announced a significant sponsorship deal to support UK greyhound racing with a range of competitions across the 2022 schedule.
bet365’s Pat Cooney added:
"We are delighted with our sponsorship of Towcester and Oxford to-date. Supporting competitions across UK greyhound racing allows us to drive brand visibility during high quality race meetings, and we are confident that our customers around the world will enjoy the top-quality racing and betting opportunities as a result of our long-term commitment.
Greyhound racing is integral to our product offering and this sponsorship showcases the commitment we have to the sport as well as the tracks and the people involved.”
bet365’s Pat Cooney finished with:
“Despite the increased popularity of other sports in recent years, our Greyhound figures suggest it a consistent sports performer.
We wanted to promote Greyhound racing and were delighted to sponsor four Category 1 competitions, starting with our Empress Stakes at Towcester which attracted a good response in greyhound circles and on Social Media.
Next up is the bet365 Puppy Oaks at Towcester which starts this Sunday. Expect a star studded line up for this competition.
December will see the bet365 Challenge Cup at recently re-opened Oxford. Tickets are already selling for this one, so book early!
