Sunderland are set to complete the signing of Habib Diarra from Ligue 1 side Strasbourg after a £30 million deal was agreed between the two clubs.
The 21-year-old Senegal midfielder scored against England earlier this month and is set to undergo a medical at the Stadium of Light before the formalities of the deal are completed.
Sunderland have moved quickly secured to secure a replacement for Jobe Bellingham after the midfielder joined Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £27.9 million.
There has been interest in Diarra from fellow Premier League newcomers Leeds United along with Everton, but Sunderland look to have secured the services of the talented youngster.
The deal will involve a £27m fee up front, with £3m to be paid in add-ons if a number of clauses are met during Diarra's time on Wearside.
The club-record deal eclipses the £20m signing of Enzo Le Fee from Roma at the end of May, after his loan deal was made permanent following the club's play-off final win.
The imminent arrival of Diarra at Sunderland has also been seconded in a post from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on X.
"Documents are being exchanged with Strasbourg, initial fee worth €31.5m plus €4m add-ons.
Medical already booked, here we go 100% confirmed."
