bet365 trader linchpin Steve Freeth takes a look back at this weekend's major sporting action.
Where else to start than Craven Cottage as Fulham kept their European qualification hopes alive with a thrilling 3-2 victory over runaway Premier League leaders Liverpool on Sunday.
The home side edged a dramatic encounter to secure all three points and continue to cling onto the coattails of the sides just above them in the league table, but whilst it was the Fulham fans who were celebrating come the final whistle, there were a fair share of Liverpool supporters able to take some consolation following defeat, thanks to our 'Sub On Play On' Offer!
We paid out on Cody Gakpo 'To Score Anytime' in the match, despite the fact that he didn't actually do so.
Of course, our recently launched offer means that bets placed on the Dutch international forward rolled on to his replacement, Luis Diaz, who went on to net in the five-goal thriller in West London.
It was a similar story across the capital too, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where Mathys Tel bagged in Spurs' 3-1 victory over now-relegated Southampton, meaning we paid out on bets for Dominic Solanke 'To Score Anytime' given Tel stepped off the bench to replace the England international in the second half.
There wasn't a great deal of drama in the Manchester Derby, sadly, but backers of the tough-tackling Manuel Ugarte 'To Be Booked' were subsequently able to cash in on bets placed on him to receive a yellow card, after Mason Mount was carded late on in the stalemate having replaced the Uruguayan.
It was all smiles in the bet365 trading room this weekend after a strong set of bookmaker-friendly results.
Arsenal’s 1-1 Premier League draw against Everton kicked things off nicely on Saturday and while there was a brief fightback with both Wolves and then Aston Villa winning, the surprises continued on Sunday with Liverpool losing, Chelsea drawing and Manchester United and Manchester City playing out that low-key 0-0 draw.
We also enjoyed a profitable return in La Liga over the weekend, particularly on Sunday, which kind of bucked the trend given the fact we have often seen the two Spanish giants, Real Madrid and Barcelona, coming from behind to win matches.
Things didn't go to script this time around however, as a Carlos Corberan inspired victory for the big outsiders Valencia, at 2/7 Real Madrid, was followed by 4/11 Barcelona drawing 1-1 with Real Betis.
Alaves then going on to secure the spoils on the road in Girona was the cherry on the top of the cake.
Sunday was much better for La Liga backers though as 6/5 Atletico Madrid bagged a late winner at Sevilla whilst 6/4 Real Sociedad prevailed 3-1 away at Las Palmas to slightly take the gloss of of things for us.
In Germany, we took a bit of a hit as 11/10 Borussia Dortmund romped to a 4-1 victory over Freiburg in the race for European qualification, while PSG secured their umpteenth Ligue 1 title in France courtesy of a narrow 1-0 victory over the huge pre-match underdogs, Angers.
A similar scoreline at St Johnstone in Scotland had us jumping through hoops as 1/6 Celtic succumbed to a shock defeat, with that result proving a real coupon buster for us.
Meanwhile, our '2 Goals Ahead Early Payout Offer' was triggered twice in Serie A on Saturday in games involving the two Milan giants.
We paid out on 1/2 Inter Milan just before half time against Parma before the leaders were pegged back, and backers of 15/4 Fiorentina were collecting after just 10 minutes after racing into a two-goal lead before AC Milan fought back to take a point at the San Siro.
Willie Mullins could train the stable cat to win a race, so we were always going to see interest in Grand National winner Nick Rockett.
Of course, the heavy Mullins presence in the places behind the 33/1 shot also benefited the punters, meaning we actually lost out in the battle on the main race itself, having originally thought we’d got away with it!
