NRL: Stuart wants more from Raiders

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart says there is a lot for his side to improve on but was delighted with the way they fought out a narrow 22-16 victory over the Sydney Roosters on Sunday.

The Raiders are priced at 13/8 to finish in the top eight of the NRL and now sit in 10th spot on the ladder with a win-loss record of 6-7 for the season so far.

Hard-fought win

Canberra were never behind in the game and were leading by 12 points at one stage before the Roosters came fighting back to set up a tense finish.

The Raiders managed to hang on and see the job out. They have now beaten top-eight teams in three of the last four games, but Stuart says they are far from the finished article.

"It was tough win," Stuart told reporters after the game. "We prepared (knowing) it was going to be a grinding, gritty game, we played accordingly.

"We made tackles tonight, one-on-ones that if we had've made last week, we would have won that one too. We can play better than what we did tonight, there's certainly some stuff we can improve on and easily improve on."

Roosters in sixth

The Roosters remain in sixth place on the ladder and disappointed coach Trent Robinson felt his side did enough to take the win, despite lacking in certain areas.

"It was really stop-start the whole first half, penalties and errors, and it felt like we lost the ruck," Robinson added. "They were more dominant in the way they carried, they won that area.

"I felt we asked enough questions to get the points we needed to win that game but overall, really disappointing not to pressure right to the end."
