Stuart Bingham v Stuart Carrington: Prediction, tips, odds & how to watch

There are no easy rides in snooker’s World Championship and that has proven true for the winner of the 2015 edition, Stuart Bingham.

A poor performance on the tour this year means that Ball Run has to make his way through these qualifiers at the English Institute of Sport to reach the Crucible.

Bingham must win two matches to reach that tournament proper, the first of which comes against namesake Stuart Carrington.

Carrington picked up a dramatic victory over Liam Highfield in his last qualifier and will be hoping to carry that momentum into this clash.

The 33-year-old came from 9-7 down to win 10-9 after forgoing a 6-3 lead over Highfield in an end-to-end matchup.

Before that Carrington had recorded a 10-5 victory over Himanshu Jain in the first qualifier but faces an uphill battle in getting the better of Bingham here.

Stuart Bingham v Stuart Carrington tips

Stuart Bingham -3.5 frames - 1/1

Stuart Carrington has never gone beyond the first round of the World Championships and he faces a tough task to get the better of Stuart Bingham in this qualifier.

Ball Run has qualified for the last 13 tournaments at the Crucible and his style of play is suited to the longer format provided by the World Championship.

Bingham has reached the quarter-finals of this tournament four times and has an impressive head-to-head record against Carrington.

The 47-year-old has won all five meetings between the two by an aggregate score of 24-11 and he is fancied to register a comfortable success here.

Despite their last meeting in the UK Championship in 2021 being just a best-of-11 clash, Bingham managed to win 6-2 and he could record another dominant win.

Bingham has not been at his best this season but there have been flashes of his former self, including when winning his group in the Championship League snooker in January, beating quality operators Kyren Wilson and Gary Wilson 3-0 in the process.

The former world champion has also beaten Mark Selby and Neil Robertson recently and Stuart Carrington cannot boast the same level of recent form.

Before these qualifiers, Carrington had lost five of his last seven games and while he showed plenty of grit to battle back against Liam Highfield in the last round, Bingham is a different level altogether.

The veteran is 64 places above his opponent in the rankings and he should be able to make that difference in quality tell here.

Three of Carrington’s last nine defeats have been by at least four frames and a repeat of that looks likely.

Take Bingham to overcome a 3.5-frame deficit on the handicap and move a step closer to the Crucible with a comfortable win.

Under 16 frames - 5/4

Stuart Bingham will want to get the job done quickly in this matchup and there may be fewer than 16 frames in this match.

Ball Run recorded a 10-4 victory over David Gilbert in his first game of the World Championship last season and could record another comfortable win here.

Stuart Carrington’s first qualifier came in under 16 frames but he may be the one who struggles to keep up the pace if Bingham is anywhere near his best.

The former world champion has a point to prove and will not want to forego his run of 13 visits to the Crucible in a row.

Side with under 16 frames in what is expected to be a fairly straightforward victory for Ball Run, who would set up a clash with either Louis Heathcote or Elliot Slessor if doing so.
