Strictly Come Dancing: Week Ten preview

After the annual trip to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom last week, the celebrities and their dance partners return to London for Week 10 of Strictly Come Dancing.

We’re now just four weeks from the final and the battle to lift the Glitterball Trophy is hotting up, with just seven couples remaining in the competition.

What: Strictly Come Dancing, Week 10
Where: Elstree Film and Television Studios, London
When: Saturday, 26th November 2022
How to watch: BBC One
Odds: Hamza Yassin 1/3, Helen Skelton 3/1, Will Mellor 22/1, Fleur East 28/1

East shines as West departs Strictly

It was another dancing extravaganza in Blackpool last week, with our first 40 of the 2022 series whilst we saw the departure of the eighth celebrity.

DJ Tyler West was the latest star to be voted off, despite scoring 35 for his Salsa with partner Dianne Buswell - as they performed to the classis KC and the Sunshine Band hit “That’s the Way (I Like It)”.

At the other end of the scale, Fleur East and partner Vito Coppola received top marks for their Couples’ Choice performance to a Destiny’s Child mash-up.

The singer wowed the judges and the score of 40 helped keep the pair in the competition for another week and saw their odds drop to 28/1 in the Outright market.

Marsh misses out through illness

It’s been revealed that Kym Marsh has been struck down by illness this week, so the singer/ presenter and partner Graziano Di Prima will not compete.

Marsh, who received the second lowest score in Blackpool (33), is now likely to progress straight through to Week 11.

Judge Anton du Beke has been praising the former Hear’Say star for the progress she has made over the last month.

The Morning Live presenter was in the bottom two back in Week 4, but since then her scores have improved and she is hoping to be in the last six.

Du Beke, speaking to Good Morning Britain, said: "She's coming on beautifully and I love her style of dancing, so yeah, she'll be missing this weekend as she's got to go through the protocol. But hopefully she’s okay.”

Ellie and Molly battling to survive

Ellie Taylor and Johannes Radebe were the lowest scorers from Week Nine, receiving 31 for their American Smooth to the Cilla Black hit “You’re My World”.

The stand-up comedian still avoided the bottom two, but will need a step-up in performance again this week if she is to stay in the competition.

Instead, it was Molly Rainford who faced the dance-off in Blackpool and survived by three votes to one, as West eventually departed.

Singer/Actress Rainford had scored 35 for her Jive with partner Carlos Gu, but this week she will take on the Tango to try and extend her stay in the Strictly ballroom.

Rainford is 7/2 in the ‘Next Elimination’ market, while Taylor is 4/7 to be leaving the 2022 competition in Week 10.

Consistent Hamza still leads the way

It was another high-30s score for Hamza Yassin last week and the TV cameraman has scored over 30 points in each of the last six rounds of the competition.

The 32-year-old is 1/3 to lift the Glitterball Trophy and 1/12 to finish as the Top Man in the competition, as he prepares for Week 10.

Hamza and his partner Jowita Przystal will this week take on the Argentine Tango as they look to seal their place in the last six.

The only other man left in the competition is Will Mellor, with the actor scoring 35 in Week Nine for a Samba to “I Go to Rio” by Hugh Jackman.

Mellor and dance partner Nancy Xu - now 22/1 to win the competition - will take on the Charleston this week.

Skelton continues to make giant strides

Arguably the dancer who has made the most progress over the last few weeks has been Helen Skelton, who is now 3/1 to be crowned 2022 champion.

The former Blue Peter presenter looked like she might have been facing an early exit, when she and partner Gorka Marquez received just 29 points for their Paso Doble in Week Four.

But Skelton has scored 35-32-37-32-39 since then and she seems to be growing in confidence, as she prepares to take on the Samba for the first time on Saturday night.
