Steve Borthwick announces England squad for inaugural Nations Championship

Steve Borthwick has named his squad for the summer fixtures of the inaugural Nations Championship.

The squad, which features a number of surprises, is headlined by the inclusion of Bristol Bears centre Benhard Janse van Rensburg, who qualifies for England through five-year residency.

The 29 year-old, who was previously tied to South Africa thanks to a 20-minute cameo for the 'Baby Boks' in 2016, successfully appealed to World Rugby last year that his emergency injury cover appearance should not mean he is only eligible for the Springboks.

Though it was initially thought he would only become available in November, his paperwork has allowed him to play in two of England's matches this summer, against Fiji and Argentina.

The inclusion of the Bears' man, comes at the expense of both Ollie Lawrence and Max Ojomoh, while Fraser Dingwall, Seb Atkinson and Henry Slade are included as the other specialist centres.

Alongside clubmates Lawrence and Ojomoh, Henry Arundell is left out - following a dismal Six Nations display - being replaced by Leicester Tigers win Adam Radwan.

Luke Cowan-Dickie misses out on the squad through rehabilitation, being replaced by another Tigers man Jamie Blamire, who has had a strong season replacing Julian Montoya at Welford Road, alongside Bath's 20-year-old hooker Kepu Tuipulotu.

Despite only returning from an extremely long injury lay-off a few weeks ago, current Tigers and soon-to-be Saracens lock George Martin is included amongst the second rows.
