In a career spanning 23 years, 985 matches and three Grand Slam titles, Stan Wawrinka finally bid farewell to professional tennis as he bowed out in front of a passionate home crowd in Basel.
One of the most popular players to have graced the sport, Wawrinka's indomitable spirit, remarkable resilience and outrageously powerful backhand ensured he was one of the rare individuals to claim a major when the 'Big Three' of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic held an iron grip on the men's game.
A late bloomer, Wawrinka found success on the ATP Tour in his late 20s, winning his maiden Grand Slam title at the age of 28. Knee surgery at the end of 2017 signalled the start of recurring injury issues which derailed his career, and yet Wawrinka's doggedness continued to shine through, reaching the third round of the 2026 Australian Open whilst in his 40s and becoming the third-oldest semi-finalist on the ATP Tour since 1990.
He climbed as high as number three in the world, achieved in January 2014, and pocketed over $38million in career earnings.
As Wawrinka calls time on his glorious career, we've looked back on his achievements and titles.
Stan Wawrinka won a total of 16 ATP singles titles during his professional tennis career:
2006

Stan Wawrinka faced Novak Djokovic a total of 27 times on the ATP Tour, and while the Serbian dominates the overall head-to-head record, Wawrinka was 2-0 against Djokovic in Grand Slam finals (2015 French Open & 2016 US Open).
