The stadium, which is located about 23km north of Doha in Lusail City, will host 10 matches during the tournament, including the final on 18th December.

The stadium is located about 23km north of Doha in Lusail City and will be served by the Doha Metro Red Line. Drivers can get to the stadium by using the Al Khor Expressway.
Construction began in April 2017 but delays meant it did not open in 2020 when it was originally scheduled to.
It was finally completed on 22nd November 2021 and 10 months later it hosted the Lusail Super Cup. The match was arranged as a rehearsal for the World Cup finals and was contested between the Saudi Arabian champions, Al Hilal, and the champions of Egypt, Zamalek.

The Lusail Stadium, which is owned by the Qatar Football Association, has a capacity of 80,000 and is the biggest stadium in Qatar.
After the World Cup it is planned to reduce the capacity of the stadium to 40,000 and it is hoped that the venue will then be able to feature affordable housing units, shops, food outlets, health clinics and even a school.
No club side currently plays at the stadium and at the end of the World Cup most of the seats will be removed because "Lusail will not need its own football stadium after 2022".
