Victory in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot immediately propelled Illinois to top of the betting to win the St Leger this year.
Subsequent narrow losses in the Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp and the Great Voltigeur Stakes at the Ebor Festival showed that Aidan O'Brien's colt remains in solid form, and he could go one better at Doncaster.
The Ballydoyle contingent doesn't end there, however, as O'Brien seeks an eighth win in the oldest of the five Classics.
He has the unbeaten Jan Brueghel at his disposal, a horse who secured his third victory in fine style at Glorious Goodwood last time out, along with Grosvenor Square, winner of an Irish St Leger trial at the Curragh.
Other contenders include You Got To Me, who was second in the Yorkshire Oaks on her last outing, and Sunway, who was last seen finishing fourth in the prestigious King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.
