St Helens complete statement signing of NRL star

St Helens have reportedly completed the signing of Australian halfback Sean O'Sullivan.

A crushing 48-10 defeat to Leigh on Friday night saw the Saints miss out on a place in the play-offs, with the Leopards claiming the final spot in the top six at their expense.

The result marks the first time that St Helens have missed out on a play-off place in the Super League era, ending a streak that dated back three decades.

With their campaign over, the club will look to bounce back under Kevin Walters, with the Australia boss set to take the reins in Merseyside following the conclusion of this year's Rugby League World Cup.

With an urgent rebuild required Walters is seemingly wasting no time in bringing in reinforcements to join him at the BrewDog Stadium

According to Love Rugby League O'Sullivan has agreed to join Saints from Canterbury Bulldogs on a one-year deal.

Saints are said to have been monitoring O'Sullivan before Walters was announced as their next head coach but faced competition from Bradford Bulls who initially appeared to be leading the race to secure the 28-year-old's signature.

O'Sullivan reportedly pulled out of a prospective deal to the bulls to join St Helens, with an official confirmation of the move expected imminently.

The brother-in-law of Leeds Rhinos prop Matt Lodge, O'Sullivan has spent his entire career to date in the NRL and was part of Penrith Panthers side that secured grand final glory in 2022.
