St Helens are reportedly set to agree a deal to sign NRL winner Sam Verrills.
A dramatic overhaul is already underway at the BrewDog Stadium following a disappointing end to the 2026 Super League season.
A 48-10 thrashing by Leigh Leopards last week ended Saints' hopes of a top six finish, and they will close out their campaign at home to Hull KR on Friday night.
The result marked the first time in the Super League era that St Helens failed to earn a place in the play-offs, and the club are wasting no time in transforming their squad with a view to bounce back next year.
According to a report from Love Rugby League, St Helens are nearing a deal to sign Verrills for the 2027 season, just days after his compatriot Sean O'Sullivan agreed terms to make the move to Merseyside.
Verrills has spent his entire career in NRL, having made his senior debut for the Sydney Roosters back in 2019.
The 27-year-old made an immediate impact during his maiden season and started for the Tricolours in the 2019 NRL Grand Final, scoring the opening try of the game after just seven minutes as they went on to claim a 14-8 over Canberra Raiders.
Verrills would later join Gold Coast Titans in 2023, making 68 appearances and scoring five tries during a four-season spell at the Robina Stadium.
Jonny Lomax's retirement after nearly two decades on Merseyside led Saints into the market for additional depth at hooker, and Verrills is expected to compete for a starting place with England international Daryl Clark next season.
