Spain v France Combined XI (Euro 2024)

Two European heavyweights will collide at Munich's Allianz Arena as Spain take on France in the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Luis de la Fuente's Spain have dazzled in Germany so far, scoring 11 goals in five games en route to the last four of the Euros.

France, on the other hand, have underwhelmed at this summer's Euros, with Les Bleus remarkably reaching the semi-final stage without any of their own players registering a goal from open play.

Didier Deschamps' side have looked solid at the back, however, conceding just one goal at the tournament to date, and the clash of styles between the French and Spaniards could make for a compelling clash in Bavaria.

Based on the performances of both sets of players at this summer's Euros so far, we have pieced together our own Combined XI ahead of this hotly-anticipated semi-final showdown.

Euros

Spain v France

GK: Mike Maignan (France)

No team has conceded fewer than France's goals against tally of one at Euro 2024, with goalkeeper Mike Maignan an important part of this defensive strength.

Milan shot-stopper Maignan has a tournament-high four clean sheets to his name, with the only goal he has conceded coming from the penalty spot with Poland's Robert Lewandowski firing past him on his second attempt during the group stages.

An athletic goalkeeper with outstanding reflexes, Maignan's save percentage of 94.12% is also the highest of any goalkeeper at Euro 2024.

RB: Dani Carvajal (Spain)

Entering Euro 2024 as a freshly crowned Champions League winner with Real Madrid - his sixth taste of success in Europe's premier club competition with Los Blancos - Dani Carvajal has carried his impressive club form into this summer's Euros with Spain.

A dogged full-back with natural leadership qualities, Carvajal is a fighter on the pitch capable of dragging his team onwards to victory.

The 32-year-old's unrelenting will to win was demonstrated in Spain's quarter-final victory over Germany, receiving a second yellow card for cynically bringing down Jamal Musiala late on which will see him suspended for La Roja's semi-final against France.

Carvajal's exploits for both club and country this year have seen him emerge as a shock contender to win the 2024 Ballon d'Or.

CB: William Saliba (France)

Another player who has continued from where he left at the Euros following an outstanding season at club level is central defender William Saliba, who has been a rock at the back for France at the Euros having shone in the Premier League for Arsenal last term.

Saliba's place in France's side appeared uncertain in the lead-up to the tournament, with the 23-year-old featuring spuriously during qualifying, but French boss Didier Deschamps has shown new faith in the ex-Saint-Etienne centre-back in Germany - starting him in every match to date.

An integral member of the best defence in the competition so far, Saliba is currently priced at 22/1 to be named UEFA's Player of the Tournament.

CB: Aymeric Laporte (Spain)

Although born in France and representing Les Bleus at youth level, Aymeric Laporte has forged a senior international career with Spain's national team after acquiring Spanish citizenship in 2021.

A five-time Premier League winner whilst on the books of Manchester City, Laporte made the move to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Nassr last summer, prompting questions regarding his capacity to still cut it at the elite level.

30-year-old Laporte has been able to silence any doubters in Germany this summer, as the leader at the heart of Spain's defence alongside the less established Robin Le Normand.

A left-footed centre-back, Laporte's calmness and quality on the ball helps Spain build up from the back and employ their famed possession-oriented approach.

LB: Theo Hernandez (France)

Catching the eye at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar - scoring one goal and registering two assists as France finished runners-up behind Argentina - Theo Hernandez has once again been a key player for Les Bleus at this summer's Euros.

France's defensive system which utilises natural central defender Jules Kounde at right-back is perfect for Milan left-back Hernandez, who is given license to fly forward and get involved in attacks.

A key attacking outlet for this France team under Deschamps, 26-year-old Hernandez and Kylian Mbappe have proven to link up to devastating effect when the French skipper is deployed wide on the left flank.

DM: Rodri (Spain)

An integral member of the Manchester City team who claimed a record fourth consecutive Premier League title last season, 28-year-old Rodri has grown into an equally important member of Luis de la Fuente's Spain side.

A naturally defensive midfielder, Rodri is proving increasingly capable of popping up with goals at crucial moments, netting La Roja's equaliser against Georgia after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Co. took a shock lead in the round of 16.

Not tasting defeat in a single Premier League match for Man City last term, and unbeaten in 14 internationals for Spain, ex-Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri has developed an enviable habit of avoiding defeat at the highest level.

Rodri is currently priced as 9/2 favourite to be named Euros Player of the Tournament, and 14/1 to win the Ballon d'Or.

CM: N'Golo Kante (France)

In the international wilderness for over two years due to injury and a transfer from Chelsea to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad, N'Golo Kante was handed an unexpected call-up to France's Euros 2024 squad by Didier Deschamps.

The 2018 World Cup winner has more than repaid Deschamps' faith in him, with the 33-year-old one of France's best performers in Germany.

Named UEFA's Player of the Match in France's opening two group matches against Austria and the Netherlands, the tireless Kante has rolled back the years at the heart of Les Bleus' engine room.

Kante's standout performances in Germany have made him a candidate to win UEFA's Player of the Tournament award at odds of 14/1.

CM: Fabian Ruiz (Spain)

Scorer of one of the tournament's finest goals - an inspired individual effort in Spain's opening match win over Croatia - Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Fabian Ruiz has been in outstanding form for Luis de la Fuente's charges.

An elegant left-footed midfielder, Ruiz has been a key part of a swashbuckling Spain side who have arguably been the most watchable team at this summer's Euros thus far, with two goals and two assists to his name ahead of the semi-finals.

Not only cultured in possession, Ruiz's pressing ability has proved a major asset for La Roja at the Euros - winning back possession more times than any other player in the competition (37).

Ruiz's eye-catching performances in midfield for Spain have seen his price to win the Euros Player of the Tournament come in to 12/1.

RW: Lamine Yamal (Spain)

Announcing himself as one of the most promising players in world football, Barcelona's Lamine Yamal has been a shining light on Spain's right flank at the Euros.

Regularly cutting inside onto his natural left foot, Yamal is not only tremendously skilful but already assured in his decision making - registering three assists for his country at the Euros so far.

Yamal's sensational performances in Germany have made him odds-on favourite to win UEFA's Young Player of the Tournament at 1/2.

ST: Kylian Mbappe (France)

Although France skipper and talisman Kylian Mbappe is yet to fully come alive at the Euros so far - with only one tournament goal to his name - the new Real Madrid recruit is undoubtedly capable of turning it on at any moment.

Operating both as a left winger and up front for Les Bleus so far this summer, Mbappe has struggled to shrug off a broken nose injury suffered in France's opening group match against Austria.

Despite his struggles in Germany to date, 25-year-old Mbappe still has time to drag his country to glory and add a Euros crown to the World Cup title he collected in 2018.

LW: Nico Williams (Spain)

Although already boasting a respected name for himself in Spain as a standout performer for Athletic Bilbao, Nico Williams has been able to make a statement across Europe with his breathtaking displays at the Euros.

One half of a devastating wing duo alongside Yamal on the opposite flank, Williams is the more direct of the pair who possesses blistering pace in behind.

Bagging a spectacular goal in Spain's 4-1 win over Georgia in the round of 16. Williams' showings at the Euros could make him a man in demand in this summer's transfer market following the culmination of the Euros.
