Southampton and Millwall are both looking to conclude a deal to sign Nottingham Forest defender Zach Abbott on deadline day.
Journalist Pete O'Rourke has reported that the two Championship clubs have both agreed terms with Forest regarding a loan move.
It is believed that Southampton are currently ahead of Millwall in the race as they look to bring in another defender following the sale of Taylor Harwood-Bellis to Aston Villa.
Abbott is a product of the Forest academy and he has represented England at youth level across various age groups.
The 20-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Forest first team, including three in the Premier League last season.
He is unlikely to break into the first team on a regular basis in the short term and the next step of his development is to play regularly.
Southampton and Millwall will now be hoping that they can convince the player to join them on what could be a busy deadline day for both clubs.
