John Higgins produced a stunning clearance to down Mark Allen 13-12 in the last-16 of the World Championship but the Wizard of Wishaw may struggle to repeat those heroics against Kyren Wilson.
The Warrior has breezed past Dominic Dale and Joe O'Connor to reach the last eight and the Kettering cueman has the look of a serious title contender.
Kyren Wilson to beat John Higgins @ 10/11
Higgins produced one of the best breaks in Crucible history to beat Allen 13-12 in a deciding frame.
The four-time world champion showed all of his battling qualities to win that second-round contest. Allen looked to be in command of the final frame before the Wizard of Wishaw made a magical double and then cleared the table to win the match.
In terms of points, it was only a break of 71, but it was made under the utmost pressure and kept the Scot in the tournament.
Higgins' victory over the Northern Irishman followed another battling win against Jamie Jones in the first-round, and while it's always difficult to discount the chances of the four-time world champion, there are a few reasons to think that Wilson may have the edge.
The Scot's victory over Allen was completed late into Monday evening and he has to go again after an extremely short break. Not only could fatigue be an issue, but it's possible that the thrilling end to the contest with Allen may have left its mark on Higgins' mentally.
Those factors aside, the 48-year-old struggled in the break-building department for much of the contest against the Pistol, and the four-time world champion made only six breaks of more than 50 in that 25-frame marathon.
Of course, the Wizard of Wishaw could easily turn on the magic in this quarter-final contest and that may be needed against a fresh and dangerous Wilson.
The Warrior has contested only 30 frames in this year's Sheffield showpiece, while Higgins is up at 41.
The Kettering cueman crushed Dale 10-1 in the opening round and then dismissed the challenge of O'Connor, who had previously beaten former Crucible king Mark Selby, at the last-16 stage.
The 32-year-old has put together 17 breaks of more than 50 across those two matches and that scoring power could be a potent quarter-final weapon.
Of course, Wilson doesn't have four World Championship titles to his name, but his Crucible record is strong and there are few worries about the Warrior failing to produce under the pressure of a Sheffield quarter-final.
The Kettering potter had made four World Championship quarter-finals, two semi-finals and a final in his last nine visits to Sheffield and, at 10/11, the Warrior looks a good bet to battle past Higgins and move one step closer to his first Crucible crown.
Kyren Wilson to win the first session & match @ 3/1
It seems plausible that Higgins may be a little flat returning to action so soon after an adrenaline-pumping final-frame victory and if that is the case then Wilson could open up an early advantage on the Scot.
It's 3/1 that the Warrior takes a lead in the first session of the match (frames 1-4), and goes on to win the contest, and that looks worth a punt.
