Judd Trump v Kyren Wilson: Odds, tips and how to watch World Open quarter-final

There will be a blockbuster encounter in the quarter-finals of snooker's World Open on Friday as top seed Judd Trump takes on Kyren Wilson at the Yushan Sport Centre.

World number two Trump is enjoying a fine season, lifting four trophies to date, and he is also the defending World Open champion having taken the title when the tournament was last held in 2019.

Fellow Englishman Wilson's season has been far less successful, as he is through to just his third ranking-event quarter-final of 2023/24 and he has had to battle to secure his place in the last eight.

Over 7.5 frames in the match - 5/6

Trump sits top of the one-year money list after claiming titles at the Wuhan, English and Northern Ireland Opens over the autumn before adding another success at last month's German Masters.

The Ace in the Pack has also reached another two ranking finals and his progress in Yushan has, so far, been relatively straightforward, as he has comfortably seen off Sanderson Lam, Fan Zhengyi and David Lilley.

A clash with world number 11 Wilson will mark a step up in quality for Trump, but the Warrior has had to show plenty of battling instincts to make it this far, claiming final-frame victories over both David Grace and Ben Woollaston, racking up a break of 119 in his decider with the latter.

That century against Woollaston will have boosted Wilson's confidence heading into this showdown, but he still has the scars of his most recent meeting with Trump fresh in the mind.

That clash came in the first round of the Masters in January when Wilson raced into a 3-0 lead, only to be pegged back before eventually being edged out 6-5 in a decider.

That was Trump's third win in a row and fifth in his last six meetings with Wilson and the 2019 world champion will take some stopping in this one and, with both form and history on his side, he is 2/5 to win the contest.

However, January's Masters epic shows that Wilson is capable of raising his game against the very best and he can push Trump all the way.

All three of Wilson's matches at this year's World Open have featured at least eight frames, while two of Trump's three contests have also reached that total.

It is 5/6 that there are over 7.5 frames when these two meet on Friday and that looks a solid play.

Over 2.5 centuries in the match - 11/10

These two players have been among the biggest scorers at this year's World Open, with Trump having recorded five centuries across his three matches to date and Wilson six, including his 119 in the final-frame decider with Woollaston.

It is certainly no shock to see these two players scoring heavily on a regular basis in Yushan, as they are also leading the way when it comes to the most century breaks recorded this season.

Trump is unsurprisingly top of that list with 73, but Wilson is second on 61, ahead of the likes of Ronnie O'Sullivan, John Higgins and Mark Selby despite his failure to go deep in many tournaments over the course of the campaign.

That suggests we could be in for a free-scoring encounter on Friday and it is 11/10 for at least three centuries to be recorded in the match.

Match to go to a deciding frame - 11/4

With two of Wilson's three matches at this year's World Open having gone to a deciding frame and his last meeting with Trump having also gone the distance, backing this quarter-final clash to need all nine frames at 11/4 could prove shrewd.

January’s Masters marathon between the pair was the eighth time in 29 previous meetings that these two players have gone to a final-frame decider against each other.

Notable occasions when that has happened include the 2018 Masters semi-final and the Shanghai Masters final of 2015, both of which were won by Wilson.

Neither player will want to go the distance in this one, but if they do, the ultimate beneficiary could prove to be whoever the victor goes on to face in the semi-finals.
