Two former Crucible winners will meet in the quarter-finals of this year's World Championship with Stuart Bingham facing off against Ronnie O'Sullivan.
Bingham, who was crowned world champion in 2015, had to come through qualifying to make it into this year's main draw, but he has since seen off 10th-seed Gary Wilson and the dangerous Jack Lisowski.
O'Sullivan's progress to a 22nd World Championship quarter-final has been rather serene, as after thrashing Jackson Page 10-1 in round one, he kept Ryan Day at arms length in the second round, coming through that challenge 13-7.
The Rocket is chasing a record-breaking eighth Crucible title in the modern era, while he is also looking to win all three Triple Crown events in the same season for the first time, having already triumphed in the UK Championship and Masters during 2023/24.
Unsurprisingly, O'Sullivan is the heavy 1/8 favourite to secure his passage to the semi-finals, while Bingham is available at 5/1 to make it to the one-table format for the third time in his career.
Ronnie O'Sullivan -5.5 Match Handicap - 1/1
Even by his own high standards this has been a fruitful season for O'Sullivan, as despite picking and choosing what events he plays in, he has still managed to win five tournaments and he has only failed to reach the quarter-final stage at three of the 12 events he has contested.
The 48-year-old has managed to maintain that form during his opening two matches in Sheffield, swatting aside both Page and Day. While a clash with 2015 world champion Bingham will mark a step up in quality, there is no reason to suggest the Rocket cannot continue his march through the tournament with something to spare.
While O'Sullivan cruised into the quarter-finals, Bingham was made to dig deep to get past fellow Englishman Lisowski in round two, eventually coming through 13-11.
That match went late into Monday night - long after O'Sullivan had wrapped up his victory over Day - leaving Bingham with little time to rest, never mind prepare for his clash with arguably the greatest player to ever grace a snooker table.
Ball-run, who came into this tournament out of form and having only reached one ranking-event quarter final this season, will also not be encouraged by his own record against O'Sullivan, as he has won only four of their previous 22 encounters.
One of those successes was at this stage of the 2015 World Championship, en route to the 47-year-old lifting the title, but Bingham has only won one of their eight meetings since then.
O'Sullivan certainly seems to have the measure on his opponent - like he does most players on Tour - and if Bingham is feeling fatigue after his second-round exploits, the Rocket can capitalise.
It is 1/1 that the world number one wins this match with a -5.5 handicap, something he has achieved against Page and Day already at this tournament, and it is hard to see anything other than a routine success for the seven-time world champion.
Stuart Bingham - Under 0.5 match centuries - 6/4
As mentioned, it has been far from a vintage season for Bingham, who has slipped down to number 29 in the world rankings.
The 47-year-old has not won a ranking-event title since 2019, but he does tend to save his best form for the Crucible, as he is through to the quarter-finals in Sheffield for the third time in four years.
Bingham certainly looks more comfortable at the Crucible, but he is still far from being at his fluent best, as he has made just one century break across his opening two matches and that came in the sixth frame of his first-round match with Wilson.
With only 18 centuries to his name all season, Bingham's break building has become a slight concern and if this clash with O'Sullivan goes as expected, he may not get many chances to make any breaks of three figures.
Ball-run is 6/4 to not make a century in the match and that could be where the value lies in what could be a tough contest for the six-time ranking event winner.
