Neil Robertson v Zak Surety Prediction, tips, odds & how to watch

Robertson, the 2010 world champion, joins fellow big names Stuart Bingham, Jack Lisowski, Stephen Maguire, Si Jiahui, Anthony McGill, Ryan Day and Hossein Vafaei at the English Institute of Sport seeking to make it through the qualifiers.

In order to book his place in a Judgement Day showdown with either Jamie Jones or Alfie Burden, Robertson must first get the better of England's Zak Surety on Monday.

Neil Robertson v Zak Surety tips

Neil Robertson -4.5 frames on handicap - 5/6

Neil Robertson has been an ever-present at the Crucible Theatre since his maiden appearance in 2005.

Five years later he captured his first, and so far only, world title when beating Graeme Dott in the final, but the Australian has made it beyond the quarter-finals once since conquering the world in 2010, with seven exits at the first or second round on his record.

The 42-year-old cueman has in the past made no secret of his struggles with the demands of the 17-day Sheffield showpiece. However, this is his first appearance in qualifying since 2004 and he'll be determined that it doesn't end in ignominy.

Robertson dropped out of the world's top 16 for the first time in 18 years following a semi-final defeat to Ding Junhui at the recent World Open, meaning he's in action in in Sheffield much earlier than he has been accustomed to.

Currently ranked 24th in the world, Robertson should be too strong for qualifying foe Surety, who is 73rd on the list, and the 23-time ranking tournament winner is taken to overcome a 4.5-frame handicap.

Neil Robertson to win 10-5 - 5/1

Surety overcame Gao Gang 10-6 to book his slot in this penultimate round of qualifying, one step before Judgement Day and all the drama that goes with it.

He won five frames on the spin after losing the opener against Gao and closed out victory well despite his Chinese opponent getting back to 6-4 at one stage.

Surety's best performance of the season was at the German Masters, where he bagged wins over Jack Lisowski, Alexander Ursenbacher and Elliot Slessor before bowing out to Ali Carter in a 5-0 loss in the last 16.

While Ding went on to eliminate Robertson at the World Open, he'd previously been pushed hard by Surety in their opening-round clash in which the Chinese cueman triumphed 5-3 - but only after the Englishman had compiled a stunning 147 break to make it 4-3.

At the end of 2023 Robertson travelled back to his native Australia after admitting to feeling homesick/ But the Wonder from Down Under has returned to Europe with renewed intent and has already shown an eagerness to dig in with his Championship League exploits in 2024.

Beaten by John Higgins in the Group 3 semi-final, Robertson then defeated Barry Hawkins and Kyren Wilson to take Group 4 before producing a mixed bag of efforts in the winners' group. That ability to get stuck into battle behind closed doors will serve him well in the solitude of the qualifiers.

In two spells as a professional Essex potter Surety has yet to make it to the Crucible. He may give Robertson some discomfort but the Australian's class may come to the fore eventually and a small bet on a 10-5 win for Robertson is advised.
