Neil Robertson v Shaun Murphy: Prediction, Tips and Odds

Former Masters winners will be the order of the day in the last eight as six of the quarter-finalists are former champions, including Neil Robertson and Shaun Murphy, who clash in the opener on Thursday.

The pair have met twice in the final at Alexandra Palace, with Robertson winning the title in 2012 and Murphy gaining revenge three years later.

More recently, the Magician dumped his Aussie opponent out in the opening round 12 months ago, but it is Robertson who bosses their overall head-to-head record.

Neil Robertson to win @ 8/13

The quarter-finals at Ally Pally get underway with a barnstorming clash between these former Masters and world champions.

Robertson, ranked 20th in the world, wasn't even in this field a week ago but got a late call-up after Ronnie O'Sullivan opted out.

The Thunder from Down Under duly staged an incredible fightback in the opening match on Sunday, recovering from 1-5 down to beat John Higgins in a deciding frame.

That was just the sixth time in Masters history that a player had turned round a 5-1 deficit to win.

Robertson was frozen out after taking the first frame, scoring a mere 16 points as Higgins won five in a row, but he responded superbly with breaks of 63, 118, 80 and 57 to turn the match around, keeping the Scot scoreless in three of those frames.

Murphy ousted Ally Pally debutant Gary Wilson 6-4 in their round one clash. The Tyneside potter played in the Masters once before, behind closed doors in 2021, and appeared to struggle with the arena.

He had scoring chances in the first four frames but lost them all. He batted back to trail 3-4, but then missed a straight-forward red to a top corner leading 20-1 in his quest to tie the match up.

Murphy responded with a century and took the match when Wilson missed a pink in the ninth frame.

The overriding feeling was that the world number seven didn't have to work hard for his chances with Wilson admitting to being frustrated by his own form, suggesting he has "been going through it for a while and it seems to be getting worse".

Murphy has worked hard since, however, putting in lots of hours in his punditry role on television across Monday and Tuesday. The logic of that has to be questioned with a Triple Crown title on the line.

Robertson leads the head-to-head 25-14 against Murphy and beat him en route to winning the English Open this season.

The Aussie has lost the last two Masters meetings, but can put things right now and condemn the Magician to a watching brief for the remainder of this year's tournament.

Neil Robertson - 2 match centuries @ 3/1

Robertson was in fine touch once he got going against Higgins and is fancied to show his scoring prowess here, especially if he's presented with as many opportunities amongst the balls as Wilson was when he faced Murphy in their opener.

The Australian insisted he could be "very dangerous" with the sense of having nothing to lose after getting into the event at the 11th hour and he played in that manner with his back to the wall against Higgins.

He insisted he would "try to maintain this mindset and try to find the flowing state as soon as I can in a match" after defeating the two-time winner.

He's made 27 centuries this season already and could delight the Ally Pally crowd with a couple more here at odds of 3/1.
