Snooker: Most UK Championship titles

Initially only open to British residents and passport holders, the UK Championship was first played in 1977, and is snooker's second most prestigious tournament.

The tournament has undergone a number of changes over the years, with all professionals allowed to enter from 1984, with the final reduced from the best of 31 frames to the best of 19 frames in 1993, and the most recent major change seeing the draw expanded to 128 players in 2013.

Below, we look at the most successful players in the history of the UK Championship.

Ronnie O'Sullivan - 8 titles

First winning the UK Championship in 1993 as a 17-year-old, Ronnie O'Sullivan remains the youngest ranking event winner, and his record of eight UK titles - which may yet increase - may never be beaten.

After O'Sullivan's first title in 1993, The Rocket won against in 1997, 2001, 2007, 2014, 2017, 2018 and 2023.

Steve Davis - 6 titles

It's unlikely to come as a big surprise to see Steve Davis, one of the best snooker players of all time, second on this list.

Davis didn't just dominate at the Crucible in the 1980s, but at the Guild Hall in Preston, too, winning his first title in 1980, following that up a year later with a second.

He'd have to wait until 1984 for a third title, but would then win four on the bounce, memorably reaching the final in 2005 as a 48-year-old.

Stephen Hendry - 5 titles

Despite his dominance at the Crucible in the 1990s, Stephen Hendry wasn't quite as successful at the Guild Hall. While Hendry won UK titles in 1989 and 1990, and then again in 1994, 1995 and 1996, he'd be beaten in five finals between 1988 and 2006.

John Higgins - 3 titles

Part of snooker's famed 'Class of 92', John Higgins won his first UK title in 1998, beating Mark Williams in 2000.

After serving a six-month ban in 2010, Higgins made a remarkable comeback, beating Williams again weeks after his return having been 9-5 down in the final before reeling off five frames on the spin - including one when needing a snooker to get back to 9-8 - to win a third crown.

Ding Junhui - 3 titles

Ding Junhui was just a few months old when Steve Davis was winning the last of his UK Championship titles. Remarkably, Ding would face Davis in the 2005 final as an 18-year-old.

Despite Davis's incredible resurgence, Ding would win 10-6, becoming the second-youngest champion in the tournament's history, winning two more titles in 2009 and 2019.

Neil Robertson - 3 titles

After winning the World Championship in 2019 and the Masters in 2012, Neil Robertson would complete snooker's Triple Crown with victory at the 2013 UK Championship.

Robertson won the 2015 edition before requiring a deciding frame to dramatically beat Judd Trump 10-9 in 2020.
