The Players Championship final in Telford sees Judd Trump taking on Kyren Wilson for the title in the latest instalment of what has become snooker's hottest rivalry.

They are ranked one and two in the world, Trump tops the standings but Wilson is the current world champion.

This season, the Warrior has downed Trump in the finals of the Xi'an Grand Prix and the Northern Ireland Open and they will be battling it out over the best of 19 frames for a top prize of £150,000 in Telford.

Trump starts this final as the 8/15 favourite, but it's worth siding with him to claim his victory with at least two frames to spare.

Trump has enjoyed a tremendous campaign, taking his career tally of ranking titles to 30, having picked up victories at the Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters and the UK Championship, as well as winning the invitational Shanghai Masters.

The Bristol potter admits that Wilson's victory at the Crucible last season has changed the dynamic of their rivalry.

"I had four or five years where he (Wilson) didn't beat me before this season. I can see the confidence when he walks around the table. His body language has been different since winning the World Championship," said Trump after defeating John Higgins 6-4 in Saturday's second semi-final.

Pointedly, the Ace in the Pack suggests that Wilson's current rich vein of form - which has taken him to nine career ranking titles ahead of this, his 18th ranking final - may not last forever.

"He's in a purple patch, but it's not going to last forever. It makes for an exciting rivalry for snooker," added Trump.

Most recently, Trump won their UK semi-final in November, while Wilson had his revenge in the last four at the Masters in January.

Just one of their last 12 meetings in major tournaments has gone the distance and needed a deciding frame, the 2024 Masters quarter-final won by Trump.

Overall, excluding Championship League matches, Trumps leads the head-to-head 13-12 and he can win out in Telford on Sunday evening by more than an odd frame.

Under 3.5 Match Centuries @ 5/4

The two-way total for match centuries is set at 3.5 and going under looks the value play.

Their Xi'an Grand Prix final this season was won 10-8 by Wilson and featured just three century breaks. In Belfast at the Northern Ireland Open the Warrior ran out a 9-3 victor in a match featuring just two ton-plus breaks.

At the UK Championship in November it was Trump that won 6-2 with two breaks of 100 along the way, with nothing higher than 65 from either player otherwise, while at Alexandra Palace in January, Wilson's 106 was the sole century in the match.

This could be compelling without featuring a barrage of ton-plus breaks and getting beyond 3.5 match centuries could be harder than it sounds.

Wilson's 10-8 win at the Xi'an Grand Prix has proved the exception, not the rule, in recent tussles between this pair.

There's respect between the world's number one and two players, but a good, healthy dose of edge to their rivalry as well.

That appears to contribute to one or other failing to fire at times when they meet, with the last three major tournament meetings won by at least three clear frames.

With Trump tipped to come out on top, it's worth a small stake on that trend continuing with a win for the Bristolian by a 10-6 correct score prediction.
