Judd Trump -2.5 frames - 11/10

Judd Trump has eyes on a third Masters title and he should make comfortable progress when he takes on Barry Hawkins in the opening round at Alexandra Palace.

It’s a repeat of last month’s UK Championship final, which was won 10-8 by Trump, but the Hawk may struggle to keep the scoreline as close this time.

The pre-tournament withdrawal of Ronnie O’Sullivan has left the door open for the Ace in the Pack, who started the event as clear favourite and is unlikely to spurn a golden opportunity for glory.

The 35-year-old has won the Saudi Arabia Masters, Shanghai Masters and UK Championship this season, while he also reached finals of the Northern Ireland Open and Xi’an Grand Prix.

Trump is close as we have seen to a dominant performer in the sport, since the days of a peak O’Sullivan and the Bristol cueman is capable of some devastating snooker when on-song.

In fact, the Ace in the Pack has won 41 of the 48 matches he has contested this season and 64% of the frames he has been involved in. Those sort of numbers spell trouble for Hawkins, who could struggle to keep tabs on the two-time Masters champion.

The Hawk is a capable performer, who showed that the sun hasn’t set on his tournament-winning hopes when reaching the final of the UK Championship last month. However, he isn’t operating at his best on a consistent basis and that could leave him vulnerable at Ally Pally.

The 45-year-old has suffered early exits in this season’s Scottish Open, Northern Ireland Open, Wuhan Open and International Championship, while the two-time Masters finalist failed to even qualify for the British Open.

At his peak, Hawkins would be a threat to Trump, but the recent record between the two players suggests the older statesman will struggle to stay with the Ace in the Pack at this stage of his career.

Trump has won the last five meetings between the pair and he can make it six on the bounce on Tuesday.

Judd Trump over 0.5 first session centuries - 6/5

Trump is a supremely gifted break-builder and he can show his scoring talents by hitting a first-session century against Hawkins.

There will be four frames played in the opening stanza on Tuesday afternoon and the Ace in the Pack looks capable of hitting at least one century, something he has achieved 47 times this season.

While that rate alone wouldn’t be enough to make the Bristol potter a bet to hit one in the first four frames, the Masters is a prestigious triple crown event which will focus his mind.

Low-key tournaments wouldn’t be a stage where Trump will star, but an Alexandra Palace crown in a major event brings him to life and his UK Championship scoring efforts look like a useful guide.

Trump made 11 century breaks, at a rate of 4.91 per frame in York and that includes two in the UK final against Hawkins.

Those numbers would give Trump a serious chance of making a ton on Tuesday afternoon and, at 6/5, it’s worth chancing a first-session century break from him.
