Skye Nicolson - In Profile

Skye Nicolson is in need of a challenge.

The Australian star became world champion in just her tenth showdown, and it's fair to say that she has never once looked like getting beat in any of her 12 professional bouts to date.

A career defining fight against long-time number one featherweight Amanda Serrano is high on Nicolson’s priority list, but with every month that passes the likelihood becomes less and less.

Whether a new threat comes from super-bantamweight or the champion moves to super-featherweight, it’s now time that we see the gifted Nicolson in the ring with someone who can challenge her.

Raven Chapman looked to be that person but during their fight in October it became clear early on that the British fighter could do little to upset Nicolson’s traditional game plan of box and move.

The Aussie will be expected to handle Tiara Brown and retain her title but the American has the tools and the attitude to make it a difficult night.

Their styles may not necessarily click but this may be the first occasion where Nicolson doesn’t have things all her own way.

Tiara Brown - In Profile

You'd be forgiven for watching Tiara Brown and thinking she must have won a world title, but the fact of it is that she hasn't - nor has she even fought for one, this despite her being 36 years old.

The American, a former world amateur champion, received the ultimate compliment when her former trainer declared Brown to be as good as Claressa Shields.

Some statement, and truth be told, there is still an awful lot we need to see from her if she can even be muttered in the same breath as the self-proclaimed G.W.O.A.T.

In her nine years as a pro she, just like Nicolson, has swept aside her opposition, and now sits as the WBC mandatory challenger after beating the tough Gabriela Bouvier in June 2024.

During her post-fight interview, she said: “Skye says she wants all the smoke, well I’m the smoke."

When it gets to fight week in Australia, Nicolson may find herself confronted face on by Brown and have her hands full, because the challenger comes from the type of background where you survive the streets or the streets get their hands on you.

The American managed to escape that lifestyle, but sadly lost her half-brother, who was murdered in 2010.

She was subsequently inspired to go on and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, and spent five years as a Washington D.C Police Officer.

People like Tiara Brown are cut from a different cloth, and while she is winning in life she won’t be satisfied until she wins a world title.

Whether she can do that against Nicolson remains to be seen but she will make sure, at the very least, that by the end of the night everyone knows her name.
