Owen Farrell is the captain of England's international rugby union team. Farrell has made 101 appearances for England's senior side and has scored 1,125 points in that time, making him the third-highest international point scorer in history.
Farrell was born in Billinge Higher End, an area within Wigan, Greater Manchester. His father, Andy Farrell was a rugby league great who then switched codes to rugby union when moving to Saracens.
When his father joined Saracens in 2005, Farrell and his family moved to Hertfordshire, which is where he was introduced to rugby union for the first time.
Farrell is 31 years old. He was born on 24th September 1991.
Farrell has been at Saracens his entire career, making his debut in 2008 aged just 17 - the youngest player at the time to have ever played professional rugby union in England.
In his time at Saracens, he has cemented his legacy and has staked his claim as one of best to ever play for the club, scoring over 2,300 points across more than 200 appearances.
Whilst his time at the club has been lengthy, Farrell didn't take long to showcase how important he would go on to be. In his debut season his flawless kicking was pivotal in securing his side their first ever Aviva Premiership title.
Farrell plays primarily as a fly-half, although can also be effective as a centre, and is the regular place-kicker for both club and country.
Owen Farrell kicks a conversion during the Rugby World Cup 2019 Quarter-Final match between England and Australia.
Owen Farrell's 1,159 points for England ranks him second in his nation's all-time standings behind Jonny Wilkinson on 1,246.
Still only 31 years old, it would be no surprise to see Farrell take top spot for his nation and perhaps even in world rugby, with Dan Carter of New Zealand topping the list with 1,598 points.
Owen Farrell was handed a four week ban by the RFU for a dangerous tackle in action for Saracens against Gloucester at the beginning of January, but this punishment has been reduced to three weeks with Farrell set to complete a World Rugby coaching intervention programme.
This means the England captain will be available for selection for new England manager Steve Borthwick for their Six Nations opener against Scotland at Murrayfield on 4th February.
Farrell has captained the national side since 2019, where in his first World Cup he led the team all the way to the final before finding South Africa too strong.
Farrell did have a short stint without the captaincy in a 2022 test series against Australia, but he has soon been handed back the responsibility and the fly-half will look to lead England to their second Six Nations title with him as captain.
Farrell was selected to represent the British & Irish Lions in 2013, 2017 and 2021.
In the 2017 series against New Zealand, the Saracens fly-half played a pivotal role - in the dying minutes of the second test he scored a penalty to win the Lions the game before having a faultless game in the second test, scoring four penalties from four to help England draw both the game and series.
In that same series, Farrell scored the most points of any player on the tour, registering 45.
