NRL: Sims looks set to stay with Dragons

Tariq Sims says he is just taking it week by week following reports he will see the season out with the Dragons and not join the Melbourne Storm before 2023.

Melbourne Storm are priced at 5/2 to win the NRL grand final this season and they were hoping to get Sims on board ahead of schedule after wrapping up a deal for the forward last week.

Storm deal

The 32-year-old is under contract with the Dragons for the rest of this season but will join Melbourne from the start of 2023.

The Storm could do with him now as they have been left without a number of key players through injury and Sims says he would be open to the idea of joining them early.

"Yeah, that's rugby league. It's the business," Sims told reporters. "It's one of those things where you have to take it week by week and that's how I'm doing it.

"I'm pretty focused on just playing good, consistent, hard football. The clubs are talking at the moment but you'd have to ask them (if it will happen)."

Love for the Dragons

It looks as though a deal will not happen before 2023 as both clubs have since cooled the suggestion it will. If he stays there will be no complaints from Sims who says the Dragons will always be a special club to him.

"My love towards the club hasn't changed and I don't think it ever will," Sims added. "I still love the people in the front office, the fans.

"They're all a very big part of my life in the last six to seven years. They have been nothing but awesome to me and my family. I've never taken it for granted to pull on a Red V jumper."
