Aussie Rules: Shuey makes Eagles pledge

West Coast captain Luke Shuey says the Eagles are determined to turn things around quickly and is urging the suffering supporters to hang in there and stay with them.

The Eagles are priced at 18/1 to make the top eight this season but look more like wooden spoon contenders after suffering a 109-point drubbing against Richmond at the weekend.

Bottom of the ladder

That defeat was the second largest they have ever suffered on home soil and they now sit bottom of the ladder with a 1-6 record.

West Coast refuse to say they are going through a rebuild. Head coach Adam Simpson has described it as a transition period and admits there could be more tough times ahead this season.

Shuey also accepts it is tough times for the Eagles but says history has shown they can turn things around quickly and it will not take years to get back to the top.

In 2010, Shuey’s debut season the Eagles finished dead last but the year after they made it to a preliminary final.

Keep the faith

Shuey also knows it must be hard for the supporters to witness what is being dished up at the moment but is urging them to keep the faith.

"We're going through a tough time,” Shuey said. “Hopefully for their sake, as much as ours, we can turn it around quicker than a lot of people are saying we can.

"It probably hasn't been enjoyable for them turning up to Optus Stadium the last two Friday nights (109-point loss to Richmond and a 63-point defeat to Sydney). They deserve to see better, but we'll get there, hang in there with us."
