Sheffield Wednesday v Stockport County tips from the Football Betting Club

Table-topping Sheffield Wednesday will be aiming to return to winning ways when they host Stockport County at Hillsborough in League One on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls blanked for only the second time this season last weekend as they were held to a goalless draw by Wigan Athletic, but prior to that Henrik Pedersen's side had been in prolific form with a 7-2 victory over Bromley followed by back-to-back 2-1 away successes at Wycombe Wanderers and Peterborough United.

It's been an impressive start to the campaign by Wednesday considering the significant overhaul in the playing squad over the summer and the multitude of injury issues Pedersen's had to contend with.

Visitors Stockport have recorded three wins and three defeats under new boss Jim McNulty, and the Hatters will have felt they deserved more from their 4-3 defeat at home to Leicester City in their last outing.

Stockport's early inconsistency is best showcased by their 2-0 defeat to Luton being sandwiched by a 5-1 victory over Wycombe and 4-0 dismantling of Wigan, and yet McNulty's side remain a force to be reckoned with as they strive for promotion this season.

Ahead of this enticing League One showdown, the Football Betting Club's Gavin Horsfall has picked out an anytime goalscorer selection.

Sheffield Wednesday v Stockport County Prediction & Tips

Best Bet: Kyron Gordon to score anytime @ 7/1

"Wigan were good value for their point last week, and yet Wednesday seem quite a big price at home here," Horsfall said.

"I'd be interested in people's views on Wednesday being deemed the underdogs in this fixture, but I'm going to avoid the match prices and get an alternate angle.

"County are full of goals at the moment, they've got the third-highest xG from set-pieces as well which is an angle that I like, so I'm backing Kyron Gordon to score anytime in this clash.

"Signed from Rochdale in the summer by McNulty, which was his old boss and now he's joined him at Stockport, he scored six goals in 46 appearances in the National League last season.

"I watched a few interviews and he comes across well, he's a player with real talent and he's started to circle his name after he got on the end of three corners in that 4-3 defeat to Leicester.

"But by the far the biggest tick in his box is that he's a Sheffield United graduate, who are his boyhood club and he grew up in the city. I imagine he had this game earmarked as soon as he moved to Stockport, so at Hillsborough I'm backing him to make his mark."
