Sheffield Wednesday head into the new Championship campaign with renewed optimism after miraculously avoiding relegation on the final day of last season with a 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Seven points adrift of safety after a 10-game winless run when taking over at Hillsborough in October 2023, the charismatic Rohl was able to revive the Owls' fortunes in the second half of the season to maintain the club's Championship status.

35-year-old Rohl will now be tasked with steering Sheffield Wednesday up the Championship table, with the Owls busy in the summer transfer market having made a plethora of new signings including another loan deal for Brighton goalkeeper James Beadle, who starred at Hillsborough last term.

Although Wednesday will be confident of a positive Championship campaign under the guidance of Rohl, it remains a big ask to finish above city rivals Sheffield United following their relegation from the Premier League.

The 2024/25 season will be the first time in six years the two Sheffield clubs will compete against each other in the same division, with the renewed hostilities of one of the most passionate rivalries in English football a welcome addition to the Championship.

Achieving promotion from the Championship twice in the past five years, Sheffield United will once again have their eyes on the Premier League this term under the leadership of experienced manager Chris Wilder.

Promoted four times in his managerial career, twice with United, Wilder knows what it takes to get out of the Championship and has been busy recruiting new signings ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, with Callum O'Hare and Kieffor Moore two high profile arrivals at Bramall Lane.
