Sheffield United will be deducted two points the next time they compete in the EFL after being charged for defaulting on transfer payments during the 2022/23 season.
This charge, issued by an independent disciplinary commission, also includes a further two-point deduction until the end of the next season Sheffield United participate in the EFL.
Currently sat bottom of the Premier League table, nine points from safety with just seven matches remaining, Sheffield United look destined to drop down to the Championship and therefore begin next season on -2 points.
It's been a campaign to forget for the Blades in the top flight having achieved automatic promotion as the Championship's second best team last season, with the South Yorkshire club picking up just 16 points from their 31 matches to date in the Premier League.
Beginning the season with Paul Heckingbottom as manager, Chris Wilder returned to the dugout at Bramall Lane in December 2023 but has been unable to arrest the Blades' Premier League struggles.
Sheffield United are currently given odds of 33/1 to avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.
