Senegal walk off the pitch following penalty decision in AFCON final

Senegal temporarily refused to play after Morocco were awarded a penalty in the closing stages of the Africa Cup of Nations final.

After Senegal had seen a goal controversially disallowed in the second minute of injury time following the lightest of pushes on Achraf Hakimi, the final then descended into chaos minutes later.

Brahim Diaz was adjudged to have been fouled by West Ham defender El Hadji Malick Diouf following a VAR review in the seventh of eight added minutes and Morocco were awarded a late penalty.

Diaz appeared to go down quite easily under the challenge and whilst it was a soft decision, Diouf did have his hands on the Real Madrid player.

Senegal were incensed by the decision and after a melee in the dugouts and a number of altercations between the two sets of players, manager Pape Thiaw ordered his players off the pitch.

Several players made their way down the tunnel, although Sadio Mane stayed on the edge of the pitch and was seemingly unhappy at the decision not to continue playing.

Over 15 minutes had passed when Senegal's players eventually made their way back onto the field and Morocco were finally allowed to take their penalty.

Diaz then stepped up to take the penalty himself but he produced a tame chip straight into the hands of Edouard Mendy, before the referee blew his whistle to signal the end of normal time.
