The Segunda Division consists of 22 teams, with the top two teams gaining automatic promotion, and the winner of the play-off also promoted to La Liga. They replace the three lowest-placed teams in the top division.
The structure and number of teams in the competition has evolved over time. In the 1934/35 season, the league was segmented into multiple groups. This format remained in place until the 1968/69 campaign, where it changed back to the original singular group system that is in place today.
Racing Santander lead the way in the betting odds after an impressive start to the season. The league leaders last won the competition in 1960 and will aim to lift their third Segunda Division title in June.
