Scottie Scheffler's struggles in the Ryder Cup continued at Bethpage Black.
The world number one has established himself as not just the best player in the world, but arguably the best player of his generation. While his four majors sees him trail Brooks Koepka and Rory McIlroy by one, he'll likely overtake the former before long and may even overtake the latter.
But in the Ryder Cup, Scheffler's form seems to desert him. Back in 2021, Scheffler was a captain's pick and not a universally popular one, still winless on the PGA Tour despite some impressive results. The US 'Dream Team' steamrolled Europe 19-9, with Scheffler taking 1.5 points from his two four-balls matches with Bryson DeChambeau, beating Jon Rahm on Sunday in singles.
Since then however, Scheffler is winless through eight Ryder Cup matches.
Scheffler lost 4&3 in foursomes before tying with Jon Rahm and Nicolai Hojgaard in the afternoon four-balls. Scheffler then was on the wrong end of the stunning 9&7 defeat with Brooks Koepka to Ludvig Aberg and Viktor Hovland, sitting the afternoon session.
Scheffler then faced Rahm again in singles, this time tying to finish 0-2-2 for the week.
All eyes were on Scheffler heading into 2025, playing with Russell Henley, who he successfully teamed up with at the 2024 Presidents Cup, but the Champion Golfer of the Year fell to a 5&3 defeat to Aberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. Things were no better in the afternoon, losing 3&2 alongside JJ Spaun to Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka.
Scheffler was sent back out with Henley for Saturday's foursomes, but lost 1UP to Hovland and Robert MacIntyre, then going down 3&2 to Justin Rose and Tommy Fleetwood with his old partner DeChambeau.
He did atone in the singles, defeating McIlroy on the final hole to claim his first point of the weekend. His Ryder Cup record is now 3-6-4, taking just five points from 13 matches.
