Santi Carreras: Background, style of play & stats

There are few things in sport quite like transferring between two fierce rivals and Gloucester Rugby's Santi Carreras looks likely to do just that.

Rugby Union

Over the years, 27 players have crossed the West Country divide between Bath Rugby and Gloucester Rugby, only to be met by stick from their former supporters.

Legends of the clubs like Matt Banahan, Freddie Burns and even Mike Tindall have made the journey down the M5 to from Kingsholm to the Rec and vice versa.

That being said, there are no fans in rugby quite like the Gloucester supporters. "The Shed" refers to a standing area in Gloucester's Stadium which is renowned for its hostility to opposing players.

Its close proximity to the pitch, coupled with its diehard supporters, make it one of the most intimidating places to play as a visiting player.

Santi Carreras will become the latest player to experience the hostility assuming his prospective transfer to Gloucester's bitter rivals goes through as expected.

Santi Carreras age, nationality and background

Santi (Santiago) Carreras is 26 years old and was born on 30th March 1998 in Córdoba, Argentina.

He represents his native Argentina at international level.

Santi Carreras Attributes

Height and weight

Santi Carreras is 1.81 m (5 ft 11 in) tall and weighs 82 kg (181 lbs).

Position

Santi Carreras predominantly plays as a fly-half at club and international level, however he can also play as a winger or a full-back.

Style of play

Santiago Carreras typically plays as a fly-half, winger or full-back and does so in each position to a world class level.

The Argentina international plays fast and silky expansive rugby whilst also maintaining a control of the game that rivals the absolute best.

With Finn Russell occupying the number 10 shirt, Santi Carreras will likely play at full-back for top of the table Bath Rugby next season.

When at full-back, Carreras is able to play "heads-up rugby" with the entire picture in front of him. He is dangerous with ball in hand and can break the lines at will.

The air of control will continue even at full-back, with Santi Carreras' positional play and decision making also being of an extremely high calibre.

Santiago Carreras transfer rumours

With the nature of a 10-team Premiership, languishing outside of the Champions Cup places (top 8) will always lead your best players to be linked away.

Such is the position Gloucester are in, Bath (who are currently top of the table) are in pole position to steal away their rival's best player for next season.

The signing is currently just awaiting formal announcement from the club.
