bet365's boxing expert Rob Tebbutt previews the upcoming WBO women's welterweight world title showdown between Sandy Ryan and Mikaela Mayer and explains where he feels the pre-fight betting value can be found.
Sandy Ryan meets Mikael Mayer in New York as she makes the third defence of her WBO world welterweight title.
The bout represents a solid style match-up between two of women’s boxing’s most notable names in recent years.
Defending champion Ryan enters in the form of her career after a fourth round stoppage win over Terri Harper last time out, while Mayer was hard-done by in her January split decision loss to Natasha Jonas.
I think that the natural size of Ryan will be the difference in this fight.
Mayer is seasoned and experienced, but her world title wins came down at super-featherweight - some 17lbs south of this weekend's welterweight title contest - and I feel her tendency to get involved in a brawl will play into Ryan’s hands.
Both women are game and tough, and with two minute rounds, I don’t expect a stoppage.
However, I do feel there is good value in the naturally bigger, in-form Sandy Ryan to defend her title by virtue of a judges decision.
