Our resident boxing insider Rob Tebbutt looks ahead to this weekend's British & European lightweight title showdown between Sam Noakes and Ryan Walsh and reveals where he feels the betting value lies.
Sam Noakes and Ryan Walsh meet on Saturday night over twelve rounds Wembley Arena.
Noakes has established himself as one of the most promising upcoming talents in British boxing in recent years, with the unbeaten lightweight moving from prospect to contender status with his impressive punching power and all-action style.
Walsh on the other hand, is the more experienced campaigner out of the two, having competed with success at British level for much of the last decade.
That was, however, largely down at featherweight - which could prove decisive against a big 135lb’er in Noakes.
I think this will be a fight of two halves, with Walsh utilising his skill and movement in the early exchanges to try and frustrate Noakes.
It is worth noting Walsh produced a stunning first round TKO last time out to upset Reece Mould, so Noakes will have to be on alert early on.
However, as the fight progresses, I think the natural size and, in particular, the body punching of Noakes will grind Walsh down.
The question is whether Noakes will be the first man to stop Walsh, who is so far unbowed in his four losses.
I like the look of Noakes 'To Win Fight & Over 8.5 Rounds' at 13/10 as it covers that potential late stoppage, whilst I am also pulled in by the 9/4 on offer for Noakes 'To Win By Decision / Technical Decision', which, again, represents decent value.
