Wales v South Africa: Prediction, Tips and Odds

After a 52-20 hammering at the hands of Australia, things certainly won’t get any easier for Wales when they host reigning world champions South Africa in the Autumn Nations Series on Saturday.

Losing to a Wallabies side who finished bottom of the Rugby Championship this season, Warren Gatland’s side next face the team that won the southern hemisphere tournament.

South Africa earned a 29-20 win over England at the Allianz Stadium last weekend and look capable of putting up a big score on the Welsh, which will pile even more pressure on Gatland ahead of the 2025 Six Nations.

Wales v South Africa betting tips and predictions

South Africa -26.0 handicap @ 10/11

South Africa have brought everything that was expected of them ahead of their trip to Europe for the Autumn Nations Series.

Overcoming Scotland at Murrayfield and England at Twickenham without really having to hit top gear, the Boks, for most people, are the ultimate Test side.

South Africa are really the last team Wales would want to face, as not only do the Boks beat a side, but they can beat them up in the process.

Head coach Rassie Erasmus will be wanting to finish the Autumn Nations Series on a high before what will be a well-deserved break after a busy schedule for the Springboks.

This game could well follow a similar pattern to the Australia game for Wales, as they look to stay in touching distance at half-time, before South Africa show their quality in the second 40.

The -26.0 handicap does look substantial but this Springboks team are capable of putting up a big score and they should be able to fall on the right side of this deficit in Cardiff on Saturday.

Wales +12 1st half betting handicap @ 20/21

With Jordan Hendrikse being handed his third Test start in the crucial fly-half position, Wales will look to get after the half-back and put him under early pressure.

Undoubtedly South Africa’s power will come through in the end but, by disrupting distribution to the backline, Wales can try and keep the scoreline down for at least the opening 40 minutes.

Handre Pollard is by far the best goal kicker in this Boks squad and he will have to wait for his opportunity from off the bench in the second half.

With Hendrikse in the No.10 jersey, although he could come alive when the games settles in, Wales can look to try and keep this a tight game in the first half and the +12 handicap in the hosts' favour at 20/21 looks to be the way to go here.

Damian de Allende anytime tryscorer @ 7/4

Australia were able to punch holes through the Welsh defence in the second half last week and South Africa have some terrific ball carriers who can do just the same.

Inside centre Damian de Allende, at 6ft 2in and 106kg, is a tough man to stop when he picks up a head of steam and undoubtedly he will be looking to run down the channel of Wales fly-half Sam Costelow.

Often taking the ball up and drawing in defenders to make space for others out wide, De Allende might well be rewarded with a try of his own on Saturday to add to the 11 tries he’s already scored for the Springboks in his career.
