South Africa will bid to continue their perfect start to the Nations Championship when they welcome Wales to Kings Park Stadium in Durban on Saturday.

The Springboks have started off this new competition with victories over England (45-21) and Scotland (42-28), and the reigning world champions are 10/11 favourites to win the inaugural Nations Championship.

As for Wales, they opened up with a 39-24 win over Fiji before losing 35-21 to Argentina at Estadio San Juan del Bicentenario in San Juan, leaving them fifth in the Northern Hemisphere standings.

South Africa v Wales

South Africa v Wales Prediction

Best Bet: Wales to reach 20 points @ 7/4

South Africa have impressed in the opening two rounds, combining the raw power of their forwards with the pace and trickery in the backs to rack up 87 points, the second-highest tally in the Nations Championship.

The Springboks are eyeing a 12 win in a row and it would be a huge shock should they be unable to achieve this, especially against a Wales side they thrashed 73-0 when they met in November last year.

However, Wales have been making steady improvement since that mauling and there have been signs of encouragement over the past five months, with the 31-17 victory over Italy in the last round of the Six Nations a highlight.

The Welsh then edged the Barbarians 33-31 before overcoming Fiji 39-24 in their Nations Championship opener, making it three wins in a row for the first time since 2023.

While this winning run came to an end in Argentina last weekend, Wales were still able to put 21 points on the board and there is enough attacking quality in this side to suggest they can reach 20 points in Durban.

South Africa have conceded at least 20 points in each of their last three matches and they continue to make tweaks to their starting XV, with four players set for their debuts on Saturday.

Fly-half Vusi Moyo is just 20 years of age and has a lot of pressure on his shoulders, while Jaco Williams, Ruben van Heerden and Carlu Sadie will also be earning their first caps.

There is still plenty of experience in this XV, but South Africa have given up scoring opportunities in this competition and Wales look capable of getting to 20 points.

Alternative Bet: Rhys Carre anytime tryscorer @ 10/3

Wales have a powerful pack and at the head of that is loosehead prop Rhys Carre, who crossed the whitewash against both Fiji and Argentina.

The 28-year-old will be looking to put pressure on debutant Carlu Sadie in the scrum and any wilting from the South African could present Wales with the chance to gain good field position.

If the Welsh can get close to the try line, Carre has the power to bulldoze his way over the line.

South Africa v Wales Bet Builder Tip

  • Jaco Williams anytime tryscorer

  • Jac Morgan anytime tryscorer

  • Highest scoring half - Second

    Pays 10/1

Debutant Jaco Williams has been in good form for the Sharks, scoring four tries in his last six United Rugby Championship appearances, while he crossed for  South Africa 'A' last month.

The 20-year-old has pace and attacking flair in abundance and he looks capable of touching down, as does Wales back-row Jac Morgan, who notched twice in the victory over Fiji in round one.

Three of South Africa's last four matches have seen more points scored in the second half, while two of Wales' last three contests have had more points after the break.
