Scotland have come through some ups and downs in this Autumn Nations Series but can go into the 2025 Six Nations on a high when they host Australia in Edinburgh on Sunday.
Starting November with a solid win over Fiji, the Scots played second fiddle to world champions South Africa, before an expected comfortable victory over Portugal last time out.
An opportunity to frame the Autumn Nations Series in a positive light north of the border rests on getting a win over a Wallabies side that appear to have progressed since a disastrous 2024 Rugby Championship campaign.
Since finishing bottom of the pile in that competition, head coach Joe Schmidt has seen his side win 42-37 against England and 52-20 against Wales.
With the Wallabies edging a 16-15 win in 2022, as Blair Kinghorn missed a late penalty, the Scots will be out for revenge against the Aussies this weekend.
Scotland -4 handicap - Evs
While Australia have certainly raised some eyebrows with their wins over England and Wales over the past couple of weeks, defence continues to be a weakness that Schmidt needs to address.
Conceding 57 points across those games at the Allianz Stadium and Principality suggests this Scotland side can have some joy with ball in hand on Sunday.
With a backline made up of Ben White, Finn Russell, Sione Tuipulotu, Huw Jones, Darcy Graham, Duhan van der Merwe and Blair Kinghorn, Scotland should be dangerous in offence in Edinburgh.
What a great opportunity for this array of talented Scottish backs to catch the eye of British Lions head coach Andy Farrell by putting in a strong performance against the Wallabies this weekend.
Scotland also have a settled pack that can deliver a platform, with former skipper Jamie Ritchie the only change from the forwards who started against the Springboks.
Australia of course have their threats and this will be far from a walk in the park for Scotland but the hosts look like they have the attack to get at this Wallabies defence and cover the -5 handicap on Sunday.
Darcy Graham anytime tryscorer - 11/10
A sub-plot in this weekend’s game in the Scottish capital is the battle between wingers Graham and Van der Merwe to be the nation’s leading tryscorer.
With Graham scoring against Portugal last time out, the Prince of Hawick moved level with Van der Merwe at the top of Scotland’s tryscoring standings at 29 tries apiece.
The pair will be going all out to add to their respective tallies this weekend but Graham gets the nod to touchdown at anytime this weekend for the hosts.
With explosive pace and surprising strength for a man of his diminutive stature, Graham catches the eye at 11/10 to be the first Scot ever to reach 30 Test tries.
Matt Faessler anytime tryscorer - 7/4
Australia have attacking players to watch out for in the backline but it’s in the forwards where they might find some joy.
The Wallabies driving maul was excellent against the Welsh and the beneficiary was hooker Matt Faessler who crossed over for a hat-trick in Cardiff.
Australia would be mad not to try and play to their strengths at the lineout and the driving maul and Faessler is a good price at 7/4 to cross over for another try this weekend.
