New Zealand v England: Prediction, Tips and Odds

England's summer internationals draw to a close on Saturday morning when they play their second Test against New Zealand at Eden Park in Auckland.

The first match produced a tense yet entertaining encounter as tries from Sevu Reece and Ardie Savea helped the All Blacks to a 16-15 victory at the Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, with England's Maro Itoje and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso also going over for the Red Rose.

There were plenty of high points and positives to take for Steve Borthwick and his coaching staff, who may have felt hard done after Marcus Smith had an off day from the kicking tee.

The fly-half will need to be perfect on Saturday, with the Kiwis unbeaten at Eden Park in 48 matches, a streak stretching back to 1994.

New Zealand v England betting tips and predictions

New Zealand to win by 1-12 points @ 13/10

Just a point separated the sides last Saturday but the margin of victory could have been wider had, like Smith, New Zealand number 10 Damian McKenzie produced a stronger kicking performance.

New Zealand have won 14 of their 16 meetings with England on home soil - their most recent defeat coming in Wellington in 2003 - and their last three meetings with sides currently in the top five of the world rankings have been separated by no more than four points.

England could still go up a few gears but they have been plagued by inconsistency throughout 2024. The Red Rose lost two of their five Six Nations fixtures this year and another defeat against the All Blacks looks on the cards.

New Zealand to score first @ 4/6

A major problem England have had in recent performances is their tendency to start slowly and this could be a trend that continues on Saturday.

England have failed to score the first points in five of their last seven international fixtures, the only ducks to the trend coming against France and Scotland in the Six Nations in which they fell on the losing side.

Borthwick's side have also failed to get points on the board first in both of their last two head-to-heads with New Zealand.

The All Blacks have been polar opposites in this regard in getting the first points on the scoresheet in six of their last eight internationals and so Robertson's side look a good bet to do the same on Saturday.

Sevu Reece anytime tryscorer @ SP

A knee injury ruled Reece out of last year's World Cup but he returned to the squad after scoring 12 tries in the 2024 Super Rugby season.

The Crusaders wing played a big part in Robertson's record seven-straight Super Rugby titles as a coach during their time together in Christchurch and there was little surprise when he was named in 'Razor's' first squad as All Blacks' boss.

Reece has scored 16 tries in his 24 caps and has a chance to cement a wing berth opposite Mark Telea as his former club coach looks to build a team towards the next World Cup in 2027.

Backs coach Leon MacDonald praised the 27-year-old's appetite for work around the field in the build-up to the series but it was sticking to his wing and taking a cross-field kick that allowed him to grab a try last Saturday.

Always dangerous, the Kiwi speedster is the complete winger and is a standout candidate to touch down again in Auckland.
