Harlequins v Northampton Saints: Prediction, Tips and Odds

The Twickenham Stoop has not been a happy hunting ground for Northampton over recent years, but the Saints can change that on Friday night when they face Harlequins in the Premiership.

This fixture has very much had the trend of whichever side is playing at home will win the game.

Northampton have won all of their last four Premiership games, including the meeting of these two sides earlier this season at Franklin’s Gardens.

Quins have won all of their last five league meetings with Saints at the Twickenham Stoop, but that trend could be disrupted on Friday night.

Those called up to the England squad ahead of the highly-anticipated Six Nations are not available for selection here and, even with Saints boasting a host of Red Rose stars, that could play into Northampton’s hands in this one.

Harlequins v Northampton Saints betting tips and predictions

Northampton to win - 2/1

Saints might be missing their Red Rose stars, but there are still a host of attacking threats in their backline to suggest they can secure a rare win at The Stoop this week.

Just looking at Northampton’s back three, Tom Seabrook, Tom Litchfield and James Ramm are all blessed with electric pace and an ability to attack from anywhere on the field.

Much will depend on the performances of half-backs Archie McParland and George Makepeace-Cubitt, but if the duo can get Saints playing in the right areas of the field then the visitors have a great chance here.

Skipper Josh Kemeny, Tom Pearson and Juarno Augustus form a strong back-row for the visitors, with the trip set to play an important role at the breakdown.

With all that considered, there’s value to be had with siding with the Saints to claim an important win to keep their Premiership play-off hopes alive this season.

Jack Walker anytime tryscorer - 21/20

While Northampton fans might well be the ones smiling come the full-time whistle on Friday night, Quins will have their moments in this contest.

Jack Walker missed out on England selection for the Six Nations and he will be a player looking to prove a point to Red Rose head coach Steve Borthwick.

The Quins hooker has already scored six tries in all competitions this season, with Walker going over in three games on the bounce recently against Leicester Tigers, Newcastle Falcons and Toulon.

Given his recent tryscoring form and also scoring against Northampton earlier this season at Franklin’s Gardens, Walker appeals in the anytime tryscorer market and add to his collection.

Rory Hutchinson anytime tryscorer - 11/4

Northampton are fortunate they can call upon the services of centre Rory Hutchinson before he joins up with the Scotland squad ahead of the Six Nations.

With new Scotland skipper Sione Tuipulotu ruled out for the entire Six Nations, Hutchinson has an opportunity to potentially join Huw Jones in the heart of Gregor Townsend’s backline for the major tournament.

A try-scoring performance at the Twickenham Stoop would do Hutchinson’s chances of landing that No.12 jersey no harm at all

Scoring two tries previously against Quins, Hutchinson can make it three against the London outfit and give Townsend more food for thought on his centre combination ahead of Scotland’s Six Nations opener against Italy on 1st February.
