England’s final international of the year is coming up at the StoneX Stadium on Sunday as Steve Borthwick’s men take on Japan, who are ranked 13th in the world.
The Red Rose have endured a difficult time of things recently, losing each of their last five matches, including all three of their autumn internationals so far - each of which were played at home.
The Cherry Blossoms have also faced their fair share of troubles but they did come out on top in their most recent match, winning 36-20 against Uruguay last Saturday to end a three-game losing streak.
England -34 Handicap - 10/11
England have not had the happiest of autumns this year, losing each of their three internationals to New Zealand (24-22), Australia (42-37) and South Africa (29-20) respectively.
However, there could be plenty of joy to be had when facing a Japan outfit who have experienced plenty of demoralising defeats against Tier 1 nations in 2024.
Eddie Jones’ side have been beaten by Italy (42-14), the All Blacks (64-19) and France (52-12) this calendar year as well as being thrashed by England back in June, with Harlequins fly-half Marcus Smith enjoying a starring role in a 52-17 victory in Tokyo.
The Red Rose will be hoping to call upon their experiences from that victory - which remains the last time they came out on top in any match - and this, as well as recent history between the two, indicates that England could be in for a dominant victory.
The hosts have won each of their last five meetings with the Cherry Blossoms and two of the last three have seen England win by at least 35 points. With home advantage on their side, the Red Rose should be more than capable of replicating this feat.
Ollie Sleightholme to score a try anytime - 4/9
England enjoyed something of a field day against Japan in the summer and, after coming up against some of the sternest defences in world rugby, members of the Red Rose squad will be eager to find some joy against Japan on Sunday.
One man that has been in decent form for England recently is Northampton Saints winger Ollie Sleightholme, who opened the scoring for the hosts against South Africa last time out.
The 24-year-old has now scored three tries in just four appearances for England and, of all of Steve Borthwick’s talented backs, he could be the best bet for the hosts in the tryscorer market.
Henry Slade to score a try anytime - 11/10
Ollie Sleightholme is not the only back that will be licking his lips at the prospect of another international try, with Exeter Chiefs centre Henry Slade offering another dangerous attacking option.
The 31-year-old has not scored a try for England this autumn but he was an influential force in the victory over Japan earlier this year, kicking two conversions and grabbing a try for his efforts, and he will feel confident he can enjoy another points haul against familiar foes.
