The penultimate fixtures of the Premiership season get underway this weekend a potentially pivotal clash in the race for play-off spots sees second-placed Saracens visit Ashton Gate to face fourth-placed Bristol Bears.
The Bears are on a six-game winning streak in the league which includes three successive victories at home, impressively beating third-placed Bath and Premiership leaders Northampton Saints in that run.
Sarries meanwhile have recovered from their Champions Cup exit at Bordeaux with back-to-back wins over Gloucester and Bath. However, Mark McCall’s side have faced their fair share of troubles on the road in recent weeks and could struggle against an in-form Bears side.
Bristol Bears to win - 6/4
With just two points separating the two sides entering the final weeks of the regular season, any and all points gathered could be of vital importance in deciding the final table.
A win for the Bears could potentially close the gap on league leaders Northampton (who host Gloucester on Saturday) to just two points at the very least and in with a good chance of reaching the Premiership play-offs for the first time since 2021 ahead of their trip to face Harlequins at Twickenham Stoop on the final day, as they chase a first league title since 2016.
Bristol’s recent home form will give them a lot of confidence that they can get the job done at Ashton Gate, with each of their last three victories at their base showing an impressive haul of points in each - scoring at least 50 points against Bath (57), Northampton (52) and bottom of the table Newcastle (85).
No side has scored more points this season than Bristol’s 518 and 318 of these have come in front of their own fans - a feat made more impressive by the fact that the Bears averaged just under 20 points across their opening three home Premiership matches of the season.
Saracens have once again proved a force to be reckoned with and their defensive prowess has shone throughout the campaign, with their tally of 347 points conceded the lowest of any side in the division.
However, a record of six defeats from their last seven on the road shows the fragility of Mark McCall’s men away from their StoneX Stadium home, while this record could have been worse had it not been for Owen Farrell’s late penalty in their 15-12 victory at Bath last time out.
Bristol’s high-scoring form stands them in good stead to take the game to Sarries and, after coming from 19-0 down with 12 minutes to go at Leicester Tigers to win 21-19, the Bears will be full of confidence and optimism going into this encounter, and they look a great price to extend their Premiership winning run to seven games.
Saracens Total Points Even - 5/6
Saracens boast a wealth of attacking talent, including outgoing fly-half Farrell and winger Alex Lewington - who ranks second in this season’s tryscorer standings with nine - and the visitors will likely post a decent points tally on Saturday.
Sarries have registered even points totals in five of their last six matches in all competitions and could be a favourable option to register another at the weekend - particularly given that two of their last three visits to Ashton Gate have provided winners in this market.
