For the second time this week, Argentina and England will renew international sporting rivalries when they meet in round three of the 2026 Nations Championship at the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades on Saturday night.
Three days on from Argentina's victory in the football World Cup semi-finals, it will be the turn of the rugby union teams to lock horns, with Nations Championship points at stake.
Argentina opened their campaign with a 47-38 defeat to Scotland but bounced back with last week's 35-21 victory over Wales.
It has been a similar story for England, who were undone 45-21 by South Africa in their tournament opener before running in 11 tries to thrash Fiji 73-8 at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium last weekend.
Best Bet - England to win by 1-12 points @ 7/4
Alternative Bet - Over 61.5 points @ 10/11
Bet Builder - Argentina +11.5 & Joaquin Oviedo and Noah Caluori anytime tryscorers @ 9/1
Best Bet: England to win by 1-12 points @ 7/4
England have certainly had Argentina's number in rugby union over recent times, winning 15 of the last 16 head-to-heads, including each of the last five.
However, that does not tell the whole story, as many of the more recent battles have been closely fought affairs, with four of the last six meetings decided by five points or fewer.
The Red Rose have also had to deal with what has been a hectic Nations Championship schedule, with their opening match taking place in South Africa before they returned home for the win over Fiji and are now back in the Southern Hemisphere for this clash.
Head coach Steve Borthwick has named an unchanged starting XV for this game which would suggest he feels his players are fresh enough to deliver, but this is unlikely to be the same swashbuckling performance they produced against a Fiji side that played the second half with just 14 men after Simione Kuruvoli was shown a straight red card.
Recent history suggests England should have just about enough to win, but it is likely to be a game of small margins.
Alternative Bet: Over 61.5 points @ 10/11
This may be expected to be a tight contest, but that does not mean that it will be low-scoring, with both teams having provided plenty of entertainment in the opening two rounds of the Nations Championship.
England are leading the way when it comes to points scored, with their total of 94 being boosted by the 73 they racked up against Fiji, although they still ran in 21 in defeat to world champions South Africa, a match that also went beyond the 61.5 points line that has been set for this Test.
Argentina's opening match against Scotland featured a whopping 85 points, and although there were only 56 points scored in the win over Wales, 35 of those came from Los Pumas.
A minimum of 62 points have been scored in four of England's last five Tests and in five of the last seven involving Argentina, so expect plenty of entertainment at the Estadio Unico Madre de Ciudades.
Argentina +11.5
Joaquin Oviedo anytime tryscorer
Noah Caluori anytime tryscorer
Pays 9/1
England are the favourites to win this game, but with no more than a try separating these sides in four of their last six meetings, there could be some value in siding with Argentina with a +11.5 start.
Los Pumas certainly have the firepower to hurt England and that is epitomised by forward Joaquin Oviedo, who opened the scoring in the defeat to Scotland before adding two more tries in the win over Wales.
Heading into round three, no forward had scored more tries in the Nations Championship than the Perpignan number eight.
On the other side, teenage wing Noah Caluori marked his England Test debut by coming off the bench to cross against Fiji and he can repeat the trick on Saturday night.
Caluori, who does not turn 20 until September, finished joint top of the Gallagher Prem try-scoring charts during a breakout 2025/26 season that saw him run in 18 tries and it looks like he has quickly settled into life on the international stage as well.
