Wigan Warriors begin the defence of their Super League crown when they host Leigh Leopards in their opening game on Thursday night at the Brick Community Stadium.
The Warriors were a dominant force last season, winning the World Club Challenge, Challenge Cup, League Leaders' Shield and the Super League Grand Final.
Hungry to continue that success and keep their noses ahead of the chasing pack, head coach Matt Peet and his side will be eager to make a winning start when Leigh make the short trip to the Brick Community Stadium.
Wigan Warriors -14.5 handicap - 10/11
Winning all of their last 10 encounters with Leigh, the Warriors seemed to have enjoyed this fixture in recent years.
Leigh’s last win in this fixture came back in 2017 and since then the Leopards have been on the end of some heavy defeats at the hands of the Warriors.
Looking back at the four Super League games these sides played against each other in 2024, Wigan managed to come out on top by an aggregate scoreline of 130-24 against Leigh.
Wigan to win with a -14.5 handicap would have landed in all of their four meetings with the Leopards last season and there is little reason to suggest that trend won’t continue on Thursday night.
The last meeting between these sides ended in a 38-0 win for the Warriors and, while some rustiness at the start of the season might mean the scoreline could be closer, Wigan should still fall on the right side of the handicap here.
Liam Marshall 2 or more tries - 12/5
Liam Marshall enjoyed a stellar campaign with Wigan last season and the Warriors winger will be looking to build on that in 2025.
Marshall finished the Super League’s top tryscorer last term, touching down 27 times for the Warriors on their way to Grand Final glory.
In the last meeting between Wigan and Leigh, Marshall bagged the opening try of the game and went on to score a second before the half-time whistle.
Looking to make a flying start to the season and finish the competition's top tryscorer once again, Marshall is well priced at 12/5 to score at least another two tries against the Leopards in this one.
Jai Field anytime tryscorer - 15/8
Jai Field also enjoyed the last time the Warriors and the Leopards crossed paths, as he too scored a try in that 38-0 victory in Wigan in the play-off semi-final.
The Australian’s season was disrupted by injury last term and the hosts will be hoping his hamstring woes are now far behind him.
A dangerous runner out in the wide channels and a player who provides smart support lines, Field to score a try at anytime on Thursday catches the eye at 15/8.
Wigan will be looking to put down an early marker in this opening game of the Super League season and Fields and Marshall could run riot for this one at the Brick Community Stadium in front of an expectant home crowd.
